Thanks, I ordered one at Costco for $999 a day ago. I cancelled and ordered this. Although it doesn't have the pen, but I figured I can buy the pen for $100 anyway.

Costco used to have $200 discount for this product until recently.

Fwiw my SP4 works great with a random $25 battery-powered pen from eBay. Pressure sensitivity feels identical to the original pen.

I won't be getting another Surface, though. The one I have right now came from Microsoft after a warranty claim due to screen flickering that persisted even at high brightness, and now cannot hold a charge at all. It was not used extensively, and is not the typical "old battery drains fast" wear-and-tear that you'd expect from an aging product, but rather drains steadily at a rate of about 20% per day, even when fully powered off (via Shift+Shutdown and full shutdown by holding down the power button). It's obviously defective and multiple people have had this problem with Surfaces in the past with no clear-cut solution. It's really a shame since there's no real alternative to a performance tablet that runs Windows.

I broke my iPad recently and am in no rush to replace due to the plethora of devices we own, so I started reading posts about the surface. This is disheartening because this is the only legit competitor and from reading anecdotally they have a long ways to go.

I have owned surfaces since the SP2 and they work great. SP2 still works.

I own Surfaces tablets since original RT. My Surface RT is still working and is usable to watch Netflix or check the email. It still holds the charge for 2-3 hours of continuous usege. The only part that broke is charger :-).

I want to jump on this deal but the SP4 M3 or whatever the lowest model was back then is still working like a champ at 5 years old. It handles day to day tasks that I need. The slow down has barely been noticeable as I don't do anything really intensive. Word, Excel, web browsing, etc is what I'm justifying and basing my comment of works like champ off. I would jump all over this if I could justify it.

Still holding and waiting on maybe a i7 deal. The 1149 is not that bad at costco but still not sure. It's not going to be my main device but having the extra ram and speed might be better.

Light gaming , Cloud gaming , web and video consuming. ? These 10th gen 15's work well?

It's crazy how the Walmart $650 for this was even possible. Glad I got two for my kids distance learning. Never looked back at those chromebook. They're really taking advantage of the SP7 esp after I got them both the surface pen.

If you so gaming I would opt for the 1149 deal.

Battery life is worse on the SP7 compared to the SP6. May be a deal breaker for those that need long battery life.

Here at work we ordered 10. Five failed within 1 year and had to be sent back. Microsoft was nice enough to send refurbished replacements. 3 of the 5 replacements failed after one year.

The pro 4's were notorious for this. At work we had a lot of them go bad, although it was usually because people left them plugged in all the time. We never really had many 5's, but lots of 6's and 7's, no battery issues.

I'm really holding out for the 11th gen. The XE graphics really makes a difference. This is a great deal though and I'm sure it'll be a long time before the 11th gen (which isn't even out yet) will get this low.
