I've been looking for a fridge last few days and I have ruled out LG because they use a "linear" compressor which seems to be prone to breaking. LG's warranty covers it for 10 years but after the 5th year owner pays for labor which is north of $300.

Don't buy Samsung. I bought one from Lowe's and it died after 4 months. Samsung repairman came after a week, said that a new compressor is needed. On a good note, Samsung did agree to just give me my money back (full refund) after waiting 3 weeks and still not having the part.

thanks. that means i should buy the samsung.

now you get the free fridge and still get all your money back. i will buy the samsung fridge and pray it fails so I can get everything like you said.

If you read around you will read bad things about all brands. The most consistently bad reviews are for Samsung and LG. Samsung and LG are both involved in class action lawsuits for product defects in their refrigerators (1 [topclassactions.com]) (2 [topclassactions.com]). I suggest sticking with an American brand fridge like Whirlpool or GE. Yes, GE is now owned by Haier, but their products are still dependable.
