The Pro-2300 is no longer on the Weston site. Perhaps this is a discontinued model? The specs look identical to the Pro-2600 - https://westonbrands.com/weston-p...eature-tab

These vacuum sealers dont go on sale very often. Last time I recall was at the beginning of 2020.

I have a shield n seal version of this, except they're a bit different mine has a seal button on the handle and a few other features (hose plugin for jars, etc) but basically look the same. Either way yeah different than the food savers, etc just based on watts and bar vacuum specs alone (except iirc you won't find bar specs on those plastic home units but just going by wattage will pretty much tell you everything you need to know). Difference is going to be the vacuum pump and heat seal bar. You can get a 12" avid armor version too for 299 on their site. If you're doing 1 or 2 things i'm sure the foodsavers, etc work, but if you're gonna do 10's of bags at a time these work quick. Next step up would be a chamber sealer (no dealing with liquids getting vacced up, pre freezing, etc)

some really horrible reviews!

I paid $50 for FoodSaver FM2435-ECR and I've gone through 8 rolls of bags without issue.

For around this price just spring for a vacuum chamber sealer. You can find them used for around this.

My foodsaver works well, but it can only do so many bags in a row before forcing a break. Slows you down when trying to vacuum seal 50 packages or so for example. I've developed a pretty good system for bagging 6 things, sealing those, then bagging the next batch of six while the machine chills out for a bit. This limits the downtime for me.

I do agree though, these reviews don't seem glowing enough to make me abandon my foodsaver which still works and has a 10 year warranty to boot.

What are the popular brands for these? Also I assume you're limited to sizes you can actually fit inside the chamber? I do sometimes vacuum seal larger items like full racks of ribs and full backstraps, but I probably don't need to do that so much.

I think many of the vacuum chamber ones can do external also. Watch this quick video.

I do not have one of these but interesting. I dont see what is so much better than an external vacuum sealer though. Maybe someone that has one can enlighten us?

edit: did my own 10 seconds of googling.
"The vacuum sealer bags are used on the inside of the chamber machine. Chamber vacuum sealers can control the amount of the vacuum. Chamber vacuum sealers evacuate air from the chamber, leaving the air pressure equal both inside and outside the pouch and keeping liquids securely inside the pouch"

I guess if you need more control and have lots of wet or delicate items then it may be useful.

In late 2019, I purchased a Foodsaver Gamesaver Wingman..........FOR A LOT LESS MONEY than this, or for what they are asking for the Wingman today, although if you shop around you can find a good deal. I did a lot of research. I wanted something that I could seal bulk purchases with multiple successive uses, i.e. meats, poultry and fish on sale! It has worked extremely well and never let me down. Nah, I will stick with this. Much smaller footprint, does a great job, and will fit most home cook's needs. I'm not running a restaurant. If I were, I would buy a chamber vac before anything.
