I have no idea about knives, but I'm going to assume this will make a decent amazon box opener. Seems about right for the price.

I should have just forked out a little more money and bought a quality knife. Sure the edge was nice and sharp, but the knife just feels cheap in the hand. The blade feels pretty sturdy side to side, but the open assist is a pain to use. I'll hang on to it, as I got it so cheap, but I doubt I will buy anything M&P in the future.

At $10, cheap Chinese steel is what I would expect to see, It may look nice, but it's not going to hold an edge very long.

Would these withstand saltwater? Don't need something fancy, just something that can endure salt.

Absolutely not. Salt water is incredibly corrosive. Carbon steel is the worst for salt water. https://www.google.com/amp/s/blog...s_amp=true

Nothing really withstands salt water. I'm a scuba diver and our specialty knives need to be rinsed with fresh water after use or they rust. Honestly I just started using cheap knives and rinsing them instead of buying expensive dive knives.

No chance. Knives that hold up in salt are usually something fancy because of the steel and the other components being resistant. You could maybe find a fixed blade that's OK for salt on a budget, but likely not a folder. Spyderco makes a "salt" series for this.

With this said, at this price, if you could keep it dry most of the time and wash, dry, and oil it really well whenever it gets wet, you might be OK for some time.
