Not a bad price, but if you're just buying a CPU for gaming the 5600X will result in nearly identical performance for over $100 cheaper.

I would argue the IPC boost on 5600x outweighs alternative options currently, but the 5800x will certainly last longer with its 2 extra cores. A lot of games already scale well past 6 cores on traditional/older platforms.

If you upgrade all the time, by all means, 5600x is great. Long term? those extra 2 cores should be relative in a couple years.

Edit: If I was buying a 6 core system I would just say screw it and go with something like a 11400F or 10th gen on sale. Much better value for just "gaming".

I went with a 5900x recently

The processor shortage seems to be a little less lately

Where were you able to get that from? And how much did you pay?

i got it from microcenter
i just walked in (i realize not everyone has a microcenter but i didnt camp out or anything)

it was either 500 or 550 probably 550 and this was 2 weeks ago

they have them in stock at the moment. several months ago this wasnt possible. you would have to camp out at best for the hopes of seeing one go to the guy in front of you who has been there for 3 days.

Yup, 5900x now showing in stock in Houston... Still waiting for a 5950x as an upgrade for a box hosting a couple dozen VMs.
