This is last-gen processor of course, but a damn good price for a ThinkPad with their legendary build quality. I got a ThinkBook last week and am considering returning it for this for the sake of longevity.

I have no idea of current computer specs, but I've had 3 thinkpads and absolutey loved them all. Is this a good deal for the casual user?

Yes, I've bought from Newegg for years and they're legit. They're not as easy on returns as Amazon but I don't know a company that is.

Recently bought a Thinkpad E14. Roughly two months in and I'm very happy with the build quality, but the real test will be the 18 month mark.

Not happy with Lenovo's support. I can't even get an answer for a question about a charger. But I'd rather have a good build and bad support than a bad build and bad support.

They've had this laptop on sale for this price on and off for the last month or two. The main reason, I think, is because it's grey and not all black. The all black ones are selling and are not on sale but this one keeps going on sale. It's a nice laptop for the price being a Thinkpad and all if you like the grey frame with the black keys but the all black model looks like the x1 carbon so they sell faster.

This is 10th-gen "Comet Lake," which is almost unchanged from 8th-gen. You're getting a microprocessor architecture, manufacturing process, and integrated graphics from 2016/2017. Is it adequate for browsing and office apps? Of course, but if you're going to spend ~$700 on a new laptop, I wouldn't accept anything other than Ryzen 4000/5000 or Intel 11th-gen Tiger Lake (which is much more advanced than Comet Lake in every way).

I've been buying either the T or X1 series for decades and never question the value or quality that goes into the finished product. It's a little disappointing that Lenovo has proliferated ThinkPad into so many series and it's difficult to determine the targeted positioning besides "small biz". ThinkPad has always represented high-end products with distinct points of difference. Instead of experimenting with the Lenovo brand it seems like they're determined to marginalize this brand by lowering quality and price. I don't get the strategy.

You didn't elaborate on the charger issue but if you're curious about compatibility search for the Options Compatibility Matrix online.
