Hmm, I think there are better deals to be had with this amp. If you subscribe to guitar center or musicians friend, you regularly receive 20% off coupons every few months sent to your email.

In fact, if you call either of those places you can usually get 13% - 15% off without much of a problem, by simply calling them and saying, you have your eye on such and such gear and you were wondering what the best deal they can do for you on such and such gear.

You'll usually find a very tidy discount of at least 10% off but from my experience it seems to come closer to 13% - 15% if you're really diligent and really try to work it.

However, if you really wanna save then I would say to make sure you subscribe to both Musician's Friend and Guitar Center's emails to get their occasional 20% off coupons. I just used one the other day to buy an Ibanez AS73.

Hope that's helpful.

Guitar Center gift cards are sold at Kroger. Potential 6% off GC with Amex BCP card, and 4x fuel points if you time it right.

These are YMMV deals. You can usually get coupons applied to accessories, but it's harder to do it with brand name amps and guitars, because MF always asks if you want to bundle them with accessories before they would offer you a deal. Besides, MF now charges taxes on shipments to pretty much all states with a few exceptions - that essentially negates coupon's worth, Zzounds and AMS are doing that to only a few states.

I've never been able to use guitar center 20% off coupons on anything but limited low cost items. Never on anything of substantial value. 20% off a $1000 strat ? No way.

Yeah, the good ole days of no tax are behind us. Now even Ebay and Reverb are in on it, even with used gear.

A couple of years ago, I was able to use a 20% coupon off a Yamaha AC5M, and they (Yamaha) were offering 10 or 15% rebate as well. Most recently, I used 20% off on a Pod GO, and paid for it with discounted gift cards, which roughly covered the sales tax. There is a long list of exclusions but you can often get a coupon applied over the phone or chat, if the web site won't allow it initially.

I've never come into that problem.

As for calling them, I would say something along the lines of,

"Hi, so I've had my eye on some gear and I'm just kind of looking around online a few places to see what the best deal I might be able to get on something. If the price is right I might consider making a purchase." - They'll ask you what you were thinking of getting and they'll take a look at the price. They'll say something like, "Well, we have it listed at "so and so price" but we might be able to do it for...XYZ" - In my experience I have never had them tell me any less than 10% off the listed price but more times than not I find it's usually more like they'll offer you between 13% - 15% off. Not one time has anyone ever said, no we can't discount it for you.

Now, at that point, if the discount is only 10% off list, you can try to push back a bit further and say something like,

"Look, I could call almost anywhere and have them take 15% off but I like the customer service at "so and so place you're calling" (which for me is almost always Guitar Center and Musician's Friend), which is why I'm calling you guys first to give you my business. So, if you can't do it then talk to your supervisor or manager and let's make this happen because I want to make a purchase today and if it's not with you guys then I'll go somewhere else."

That has worked a countless number of times. I have NEVER paid list for a musical item ever. Don't be afraid to try it. The worst anyone can say is no. It's also helpful to do the math and have a calculator handy to know what the actually price difference would be that you're asking for. When it comes to Guitar center. I'm never calling the store directly, I'm calling the number on the web site and talking to customer service. If I don't like what someone is telling me, and it certainly has happened, I'll simply hang up, wait a little bit or maybe even the next day and speak with someone else. And don't be afraid to do that with any online retailer like Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, Zzounds or anywhere else. Call them and get that gear discounted. Especially, if you're someone who buys or has bought a lot of stuff from these companies over the years, it doesn't hurt to throw that in and remind them that, hey you're a regular customer and the reason you do business with them is because you always get great deals.

As for the 20% off coupons. I've never had a problem using them on anything I've ever wanted. Just speaking from my own experience. As I wrote previously, I just used one from Musicians Friend to buy a new purple Ibanez AS73 for 20% off. - FACT!

And lastly concerning sales tax. I'm in the Philly burbs and less than a half hour from the Delaware Guitar Center. So, since Delaware has no sales tax, if I order something from Guitar Center online or via the phone, I'll have it sent to the Delaware store and pick it up there. Hence me saving an additional 6% off. So, if you live near a tax free state, that's the way to go about it. Have it sent there, not to your residence.

People say, Your mileage may vary, but these tips have always worked for me. I hope that they are helpful for you.

Yes, you're right, they must have started this year, because there was no tax in the end of last year when I made a few large purchases.

I agree with comments saying "it's impossible to get them to do 10% off,". I tried on a Taylor guitar. An Ibanez bass. Nope.

Then I got one ambitious salesperson who fudged the system and did it for me. It seems it's "company policy" to say no, but also company policy to do what the customer wants.

Anyone know other than the name plate if there's a difference between the DSL40CR and the DSL40CRV?

I tried out a DSL40CR last weekend in a store and fell in love the range of tones. Lots of DSL40C's on the secondary market but not seen a CR or a CRV

I have no idea what you're talking about something being "impossible". This is simply untrue. Now, I'm not going to say YOU weren't able to get a lower price on something. Because that may very well be true. However, I HAVE NEVER PAID LIST PRICE FOR MUSICAL GEAR...EVER!!!! That is a fact. NEVER, NOT ONCE! - That applies to my Taylor GS Mini. I DID NOT PAY LIST FOR THAT, Nor my ESP LTD EC-1000, or MY Blueridge BR-160, or the Ibanez Artcore AS73G in Metallic Purple that I just bought Thursday with a 20% off coupon that will be here Tues!!!

I have no clue what you're doin. Either you're being dishonest (which I hope isn't the case) or you simply don't know how to go about it. Which is fine. because I basically scripted for you how to speak to these people and what to say to get items from Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, or ZZounds or other online instrument retailer's at a lower than list price.

So you can either spread FUD or pay attention to my suggestions as opposed to telling ANYONE it's impossible, because that is 100% patently false and untrue. Impossible means it can't be done. Yet, that's all I've ever done. So go figure????????
