be cautious with the quality here, I went through 3 before getting a good set of 2. If I had to do it all over again, I would go the small sub shop route and pay the extra $500-1000.

Even with the 2 i have now, I have to put very high gain vs my old HSU set.

I just checked the 15" inch today. I have 2 of them and they're awesome. EQ'd with miniDSP and BEQ with a 10dB house curve. Get them! They now ship out amps and you don't have to ship the whole thing back if something is wrong. I've had mine since November and had no issues at all. Get 2 of these and a minidsp and you're golden, no need for the PB4000 for stuff you won't use that are bells and whistles because the miniDSP does it easier and quicker with REW and a umik1. Even if you had an svs pb 4000 I'd still say to get umik1, mindsp, rasberry pi, and REW anyways so save money and put it towards getting two Monoliths and be in bass nirvana as it will make the bass sound better and even if properly aligned. Don't expect 2x bass but you'll get about 6dB for a second. You'll EQ them both as 1 sub and present the 1 sub system to the AVR. From there boost the level, add your house curve and then implement BEQ.

Edit: people seem to misunderstand. I said don't expect 2x bass. It is meant for taming peaks and nulls and still getting about 6dB combined SPL increases at some frequencies. I never said to co locate (stack them) watch this video, I don't think the posters understand or else the wouldn't be implying I'm suggesting stacking. https://youtu.be/_A6gPCczhuU also see Jim's comment below.

Edit#2 yes you want it flat down to 10Hz but that won't sound good. You need a house curve. You can do a 10dB low shelf filter directly in the miniDSP or have rew do it for you

Seriously....I got a 12" on the last sale, and you described everything I'm trying to do. The rest of my system is set up nicely...but I'm overwhelmed with REW and can't figure out what to do. I have the Umik1, but just not sure how to use it all yet. Any further guidance would be much appreciated.

While I agree with your comments, I had a Monolith 10" for a week and sold it. Port noise. The part I am struggling with right now is that with the rise in pricing, you can get a PSA TV1512 (15") - made in Ohio for $1449. So for $220 more (tax on the monoprice sub) you could have a PSA or even a HSU VTF-15H MK2 (15") for $1192 (with the 5-year warranty also added in).

The Monolith are the underrated subs that are out there, but the increase in pricing has pushed them into the realm of others that may be of better quality and overall sound.

And yes - UMIK-1 and REW can be a game changer for troublesome rooms or balancing dual subs.

OP should add there is a further discount if you buy multiples:

Dual 12" Subwoofers come out to $749 each minus 15% Free Shipping
Dual 15" Subwoofers come out to $1287.49 each minus 15% Free Shipping

Even works on the MONSTER M-215 which is already on sale for $1999 knocking another $300 off of the price!

and then I will be the other guy who says do NOT EQ them as one. You are better off (maybe) putting them in different locations in the room to tame peaks and nulls. But bottom line, do what you like best!

if you heard port noise from the monolith you are using it in a room that is too large for it and need to step up to the 12" or 15"

A lot of us still have to pay tax on PSA products and Hsu products as well

Exactly - the purpose of two subs is not for increased bass - its to allow you to smooth out peaks and nulls. I had a 84Hz null right in my seated location and could figure out why it sounded so much different in certain scenes - like not enough punch. That was why. And that was using my Iphone before my UMIK-1 (which I haven't used yet - mid new setup) and KRK Audio Tools. If you have Android - get Spectralizer and run some bass sweeps - you'll be surprised... or maybe even happy Smilie.

If your receiver uses Audyssey, you can download the Audyssey Tools app - but it $19.99.

Port noise is not always size related, in my case I think it was, but it was also on the 18-20Hz hits. PSA - only in Ohio. Hsu - not sure. Not crapping on the deal - just throwing out options for some better quality items - at least with PSA. Not sure about HSU - but they are a thicker sound which people generally perfer.

Its better to use a splitter and use them as 1 sub instead of using both sub outs and run them as 2?

I have 2 PSA huge subs in Ohio. Bought them right before we got pregnant and haven't used them since Frown.

Hahahahah - that's a similar situation I had with my Monolith 10". Bought it three years ago, but wanted to re-do my setup and just didn't get around to it until this year. Had my Denon X3400H sitting around for three years as well. Got a killer deal on both - just never set them up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it...
1- move sub #1 to several possible positions in your room (in the same general area) and measure it from 3 main seats in each sub position. You are not looking for the flattest response from any one seat. You're looking for a spot where the measurements from all 3 seats is nearly the same. Same peaks and dips across all seats. Once you find that spot, leave the sub there.
2- do the same with sub #2 but placing the sub on the opposite side of the room. Again you want a spot where all three seats are getting the most similar (not flattest) response.
3- now, with the minidsp, EQ the first sub alone by knocking down serious peaks by measuring from those same three seats. Don't boost any dips.
4 - EQ sub #2 alone in the same way.
5- now turn on both subs and measure them "as one" from the three main seats.
6- if you're getting any serious dips in the combined response from the 3 main seats, slowly adjust the phase of either sub to see if that corrects it. If not, return that sub phase to 0 and try the same adjustment with the other sub.
7- if you're getting any serious peaks, experiment by EQing each sub independently to see if you can knock down the peak.
At this point you ARE trying to get the flattest response across all three seats.
