Has anyone found an actual use for gen 4 speeds yet that isnt A) a useless sequential read/write benchmark number or B) copying a file from one gen 4 drive to another gen 4 drive? Oh or C) flexing on the plebs

I wonder if I should get another SSD before those Chia miners get ahold of them 🤔. Then again, Chia mining is not really that profitable.

Buying a Gen 4 drive right now generally means you are getting good flash, dram and all the things that make a premium drive worth buying. The controllers typically are very strong.

Until drives like the 980 non pro really muddy the waters, but even that is an easy solid choice right now. All that hassle with the Gen 3 drives and careful shopping is 🤷 ♂️

So there is that.

I'm making a build right now with the new 5950 and I'm curious to know if there's any issues with the 980 pro and pcie 4. A friend mentioned he saw an article about the 980 having some issues. Anyone know?

How hard is it these days to swap out your C drive? I have one but maybe upgrade to one of these guys. Will windows 10 have a fit?

Not hard. You have a couple options for free software that will clone your drive for you that work great. I cloned my C drive onto a bigger drive and resized it to use the extra space and it went perfectly smoothly. YMMV of course.

Like with wave2 MIMO (and just plain having more bands) on wifi access points, it's the total shared bandwidth which interests me more about pcie4 vs the bandwidth per user/peripheral. This will benefit mainly when we start plugging in several NVME drives (If they ever replace sata)

While not relevant to SSDs, the higher standard should also (in theory) benefit egpu speeds since TB3/4 is limited to four lanes.
