Edit: looks like reviewers were able to test their key fobs while inside the box and it works.

toss a phone in there and try to call it. if it rings, it's not working..

It's not that simple. The wavelength is what's most important. These are mainly for car key fobs. I'm not sure which frequency they use, but not all Faraday cages are created equal.

If you think about it, visible light is no different from a cellular signal. It's just a different wavelength, and you can easily see through a Faraday cage.

No they are not, years back used to work at a fortune 500 electronics manufacturer, in our QA testing we did have a special faraday cage and it stopped just about any signal from entering or exiting, But the standard type of setup will be attuned to a specific limited range of waves as you suggested.

Looking over the product, it claims cellphones. But doubt it works for that.

Fun fact: Most people think you are safe from lighting in a car because the tires insulate you from the ground. You are in fact safer in a car, but not for that reason. The body of the car acts as a faraday cage and would send all of the current around the body of the car into the ground, isolating the contents inside.
