Sony SEL 1670Z Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS Zeiss Lens for E-Mount $634.95 FS Amazon Prime

Super deal on a mid range Sony Zeiss lens made for the Sony Alpha camera line (E-mount). Lowest price ever according to a few camels I know. The usual price is $999 and it occasionally drops to $899.

Obviously won't be as sharp as a prime lens but good for travelling if you want versatility with pretty good quality.

edit: whoops, it's not for full frame despite what the Amazon description says. APS-C E-mount only.

This isn't a full frame lens.

If it were, it would be labeled FE. this is for crop frame cameras like the a6400

Imo, I would get the tamron 17-70 f2.8 for apsc over this one unless you really need 16mm. It's a little more expensive but a whole stop faster.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess Amazon had it incorrect in their description. I updated the original post.

That's really scummy.

"Compatible with E-mount Full Frame cameras and E-mount APS-C cameras "

Well it's "compatible" in the sense that it will mount on the camera but a lot of the frame will be blacked out. You know damn well it's not really "compatible" with full frame.

Agreed. The Tamron is not much more expensive but much better.

It's compatible with full frame because it's the same mount (E) as the APS-C, so technically the description is correct. You just wouldn't want to use it on a full frame unless you're OK with shooting in crop mode on a full frame body which will cause you to lose over half the megapixels and the focal length becomes 24-105mm. Plus, APS-C lenses are typically optically inferior to their full frame counterparts.

I generally agree with this. The only advantage of this lens is dramatically reduced size and weight.

Otherwise, the Tamron is sharper, faster, better in low light, and has a closer minimum focus distance.

This 16-70 is not a great lens, but it is versatile and very small. At full MSRP it is impossible to recommend, but at this price it is okay.

Dang who would pay this much for a non-full frame lens. Got pumped when I saw it
