From an interior design POV, when and where would you use square lights instead of the conventional round ones?

Seems like a very industrial look better suited for an office or warehouse than a residential home.

I'd recommend buying ones that are in stock at the local store. Ones in stock would be carried for a while by your local store. If yours starts to flicker, you just buy a new one and return the non-working one. Way easier than the warranty with a manufacturer.

I bought like 10 LED lamps, some different models, all were light temp selectable. 2 had to return in a span of a year. One simply died, another started to flicker. LED drivers are pure shit.

If you'll look at some youtube disassembly videos of current LED lights, you'll see a trend to create most cheap LED drivers that are not properly thermally protected. Or, even, lacking most basic components to drive price down by cents and achieve a product with life span that is much shorter than it could have been if they would have put 5 more cents worth of capacitors.

Mine are in kitchen, living room, and halls. Modern look and everyone who has seen them loves them.

I can also confirm. I have the 6" and 4" round ones and am dimming them with Lutron Caséta dimmers. You might already know this but, even at their dimmest, LEDs like this maintain their color temperature. You cannot accomplish the yellowy-orange glow you get from incandescent lights.

Thanks OP. I have 8" square incandescent recessed lights in my basement, can these be retrofitted with a bulb adapter and connected to the light? (like the adapter shown here:

Or am I better off with a retrofit lightto save the hassle? I cannot seem to find retrofit 8" square on HD.

Also, what light temp would folks recommend for a basement with limited windows?

Light temp is very important if you are ambience-aware.
2700k is warm and dim - think very high end dimly lit hotels or restaurants, mood lighting.
3000k is less warm - general everyday residential is about here
4000k+ is daylight- classrooms/offices/exam rooms/warehouses/workshops, etc.
