Been thinking upgrading my M570 to the Ergo Plus or something however I don't think either the Ergo Plus nor the M575 has the smooth scroll wheel like on my G900...
I love trackball mice and they are all I use. Over had several M570s and now recently a Ergo... BUT the all have the same issues. After 18 months or so the buttons start to fail. You'll click and nothing happens or your click and it will register a double click. Very annoying.
If you have to click on a toggle it can take a while before it registers the correct single click. Frustrating when you click once to toggles on and off because it registered a double click. Or you trying to move an icon or window but it letd go without you releasing the button press and you have to do it over and over pressing the buttons really hard trying to get out moved.
I'm going to stick to buying the cheaper M570 if I have to keep replacing them every 18 months or so, unless I find a better trackball (I haven't).
I just want to say Logitech employees are a bunch of unobservant knobs. Used and new wired versions of this mouse still sell for two to six times this price on eBay. If they ever make another wired one I'll purchase. I won't expose my body to carcinogenic EMF's when a cord works just fine and never needs charging. A microwave oven runs at 2.4 GHz and cooks meat. While sure this is way lower powered than an oven over a lifetime your still made of meat and it'll still slow cook your hand. Your body will also repair, but if it fails over time to repair all the damage you'll get mutations. The risk benefit ratio isn't there for me.
The ball has never been a good way to operate a cursor. These existed in laptops around the same time Fujitsu had a rocker that was leagues beyond the lenovo eraser (aka other hilarious anatomical name). They were all attempts to make laptops less terrible. Here's a way to make your desktop more terrible.
These are useful for when you don't have the desk space (or a desk) for a mousepad

I love this style. I have been using these trackballs for probably twenty years. My first was a Logitech trackman. I prefer them over mice for gaming and for work. I have them at home and at the office. I even take mine when I travel for work.

I use ball everything and I love my setup. You have to tweak acceleration and speed settings. I play Overwatch and do pretty good with my setup. I have a way bigger ball though and you don't use your thumb.
I prioritize long-term health and ability to continue operating my computer...

Per the above poster regarding emf, corded should be even better for the long-term health…

I just recently switched from regular mouse to the thumb ball mouse and love it. I had tried to use the Logitech finger mouse and hated it since it lacked a scroll wheel. Noookong back with this Logitech thumb all with scroll wheel and back buttons. Got one for work too and an extra to have on hand for any other computer.

It'll slow cook your hand.
The mutations won't undo the cooking.
I switch between the trackball 🖲 and the normal kind regularly for less strain on my wrist.
The M575 may be worth the investment.
