I'm from Redding and can tell you that those houseboats are garbage and it'll be 110 Fahrenheit in July/August. If the lake isn't 140' down and warm like bath water, you will possibly enjoy your trip.

Spend more and get an actual boat.

I did little hike around the lake. Went to a natural water slide which was pretty fun.
I just had issues with the boats from Bridgebay houseboats. 8/10/12 person boats are meant for 3~4 person at max unless you want to be packed like sardines.
If you have two families, get a 2/3 decker luxury boat instead of getting two separate cheaper boats. There will be enough space for everyone, and you'll have working amenities.
