Is this a good deal for someone who wants to upgrade into a more professional (than Ryobi) ecosystem? I'm tempted by the Makita 4 batteries + saw for $250, but Milwaukee is the one I keep hearing recommended. How good is this deal?

Does the 2AH last? The Makita one have 5AH for all batteries across the board.

You are paying for an over priced brand that hasn't innovated for a while, their newer platform should be your focus; the lxt is going to be phased out

The M12 line is very nice, but it prioritizes weight and size over power. What's your use case? I have done M12 (which is what I use the most tbh), some Ryobi (cause they're cheap and have odd ball thing and are basically disposable) and some Ridgid (for when I need ridiculous amounts of power and don't care about weight).

The M12 is my most used, but I'd get a M12 fuel surge over just the M12 fuel.

Thanks! It's for a relative who isn't very happy with the power in a few-years-old Ryobi tools. It'd be mostly for DIY and fixing around the house - though he's hoping to get into woodworking eventually.

Makita is mediocre in terms of power and variety. But they are reliable. It's like Toyota vs dodge(dewalt/Milwaukee). They have brushless tools just like any other. They have no idea what they are taking about they are phasing 18v out. 36v is too expensive and 18v can meet most need anyway

Anecdotally I've had 2 (lxt i think) Makita drills fail, on one the switch is failing and the other chuck locked. The triggers also don't have the range/sensitivity of their m18 counterparts. Warranty is shorter than Milwaukee, which also can break but at least I can (and did) get them fixed free for years,
Personally, I'd buy yellow, orange, or red before I buy another green.
