I'm in the same boat. Debating on strapping mine to a long 2x2 and seeing if that would work rather than buying one that extends out.

A regular hedge trimmer and a pole hedger are are different tools.

it's pain in the bxtt to wait for the stump to rot, i finally removed the whole thing 7 years after the local electricity company remove the tree, so make sure bet them to remove the stump at the same time if they can.

I have had this for 5 years or so and fire it up once or twice a year. Still cuts well with the original chain. I just wish it was like 40' long.

Add a long piece of PVC and insulated wire to it and it will reach however far you'd like. Don't ask me how I know.

Got one from Amazon for $69 or so a month ago and had to return it after two uses. This unit is head heavy and hard to use and the first time it cut anything close to the capacity, the motor stalls and a hint of smoke and smell was evident. I gave it a rest and continued a few days later and the same thing happened and then a hot metal screw got extruded out of the side of the motor housing like the alien that burst out of John Hurt's chest and the cutters came to a grinding halt. This was only after about a half an hour of total usage over two uses.

If you read some of the reviews you will see the same types of user feedback. This is consumer grade and heavy and won't last long.

9 LBS ON A LONG POLE.
Think Concrete Block on a Pole and that's the kind of control and experience you'll have with this.

You WILL need to be strong enough to hold this weight above you and control this SAFELY.

....

E.g. Lightweight 145 lbs here, even though I have no issue carrying 50lbs salt water softner bags.

The weight balance of this was dangerous enough for me that it immediately went back.

Instead, I returned to the light 16" Black and Decker wired hedge trimmer with a 6 foot Gorilla aluminum platform ladder. Far safer IMO for trimming 10 foot+ tall trees.

Does this have better cutting power than the cordless ones? Trimming a small maple with branches up to 4".

Where does Gorilla make a 6 ft work platform? I've been searching for a good work platform.

https://gorillaladders.com/product/glx-5b/

I got this one. Really nice and light, far more comfortable to work on than a regular 6' stepladder.

All aluminum.

...

https://www.littlegiantladders.com/products/mightylite?model=15366-001

This one has fiberglass rails and 6' and 8' models. I might splurge to get the 8' someday, but between my Gorilla for 1st floor reach and tree trimming in the backyard, the long aluminum extension ladder for the roof, really no pressing need....

Still, the extra reach of the 8' would be nice.

...

https://www.wernerco.com/us/products/featured-products/podium-ladders

Werner has them, too.
...

https://www.hunker.com/13402986/sunlights-effects-on-fiberglass-ladders

I personally would prefer an all aluminum 8', but figure with good care and use, most fiberglass ladders last decades. Just store indoors, away from the sun.

..

Aluminum is like any metal.
Can bend, break with fatigue and stress.
The main point - make sure the 4 legs are on solid ground, no rocking! Stick wood/brick/pavers under the short leg before climbing.
If you load 3 legs and 1 floats, the metal frame isn't going to like it - think soda can pushed from the side.

...

Still, among the 3 brands, the gorilla was cheapest and available at Home Depot $80.
