By the time you pay their shipping charges...you could have picked the stuff up at Auto Zone for less...
Unlike the other's simping for Rock Auto. I agree. Last few times I tried to get parts for one of the three cars in my household it ended up being cheaper/better to get them elsewhere, be it Summit Racing (luckily live 10 minutes from it), local parts store, or another companies website.
Not just the shipping costs, but if I order multiple items at the same time they shouldn't charge me a shipping charge for each item just because it comes from a different warehouse.
Wow...the RA fanboys are touchy.... Not that it's any of your business, but I'm pricing air filters, oil filters cabin air filters and wiper blades. The issue is - they come from different warehouses. It was almost half again the price of the cart, just for shipping...so...yeah....that's REALLY slick. Hand out a 'free shipping code' and then I'll agree with you. The selection is good...the actual price of the item...ain't bad...but the shipping kills the deal.
One trick to saving money on shipping at Rock auto, is to try and order every part from the same warehouse. Not all wiper blades, oil filters, etc. (they offer a dozen different brands for these items) are located in the same warehouse. It takes more time, but finding a combination of parts from the same warehouse saves shipping costs.
THIS ↑↑↑ is so true & so pertinent in this thread and makes a world of difference in shipping charges.
Several times, just by checking the source warehouse on your shopping cart items, and making a few swaps on non-critical item selections, you can often get all your items shipped out of the same warehouse and save a bunch in shipping, as compared to multi-source warehouses.
Easier to do on smaller orders. A bit harder on larger orders.
Like others, I enjoy RA, but have been burned by a wrong part a couple of times...and poor packaging (luckily, in those instances, the parts worked out fine).
Also like others, I've shopped around to see if I can save. I've found myself putting a parts list together on RA and then searching for the same part numbers on Amazon. A majority of the time, Amazon has the same part for the same price, but with free shipping. Other times, the overall price in cart from Amazon is less than RA because of the shipping charges.
Sure, some will say you're gambling with real-deal vs. knock-offs on Amazon. So far, I've been getting by.
Quick tip on the items with a Heart next to them. They literally mean the buy rate is high and return rate is low. The process to add the Heart symbol is automatic based on stats of buy/return rates. These are often the cheapest items. Often times these are labeled 'Problem Fixers' by RA.
The problem with this is no one returns the $5 motor mount because it costs more to ship back. This results in the item still being promoted automatically with a Heart symbol. If you tell them the part literally cannot do what it is designed to do they will say it's broken and to take it up with the manufacturer guarantee. If the MFG requires you send it back and pay shipping it still exceeds the original cost so you just cut your losses.
Yes you should buy OEM, but when they stop making your parts it gets real tricky.
A couple of one off issues I have run into. If they literally send you the wrong part they will refund and pay for return shipping. If they send you the part you ordered, but it does not fit what they say it will, they will take a return then have you pay half the shipping costs. Example I ordered a shifter bulb and they sent the wrong part. They said it was not their fault because the vehicle manufacturer lists that as the part for the shifter bulb.

False. I have been buying lots of parts from Rockauto and I get my parts within a day or two. Also Rockauto has much more selections including OEM equivalent.
Love Rockauto, super fast shipping and prices that are way under local stores. Agree with other comments other than NAPA most in store brands are garbage.
I've been ordering from Rockauto for years with no issues. Like others have said, there's always a 5% off code available.
I have a growing collection of their magnets!
Have these clowns figured out how to properly package parts in the shipping boxes, or are they still throwing struts and radiators into brown boxes without protection and just hoping for the best?
Got my rotors two weeks ago… they really got lta work on their packaging.

Not sure why my original comment was deleted. Seems fishy like this is a promoted thread.
