Apple gives you their version of Office for free, unlike MS. It's not as powerful but fine for home use. Software costs money on both platforms. The Mac Mini is not loaded with bloatware - that's free software I can do without.
Are there any prebuilts that are more upgradeable in this price range?
You will have trouble finding any pre-builts that don't have limitations especially in this price range. Your best bet always is to learn how to build a PC (not that hard) and build one yourself. Even still with the rate things are still progressing technology wise you should still only expect 4 - 5 years of use. To make a pre-built as affordable as building your own PC, a compromise must be made somewhere since they have to pay someone to build and setup that machine. That compromise tends to be in the form of less expensive components that can be bought in bulk.
Their are plenty of free Office like programs for MAC, PC, Android, Linux, etc. MS Office is still the most widely used and you get it legally for a whole household 6 users for $99 a year and each user gets a GB of cloud storage.
Yeah, that's a good deal if you have people who use it and the cloud storage... but it's not a GB, it's 1 TB per person.
Mine has a VGA port with a cap over it. I have 3 other ports HDMI, DVI and Displayport . I looked everywhere on BIOS setting but don't see an option to enable it . Was curious to see if you know ....
edit: a closer look, it does have an on board HDMI with a cap cover as well like you said . regardless whether it is HDMI or VGA. it would be cool if I can enable one of them . I want to run 4 monitors. thanks
the processor it has doesnt support the onboard graphics, so its covered
XPS has the same chassis and power supply form factor as the G5. These are good if you're looking for something with a warranty that has decent specs for a decent price. That's about it.
We need a few computers for scanning and processing documents, slides and photos. If I were buying a gaming rig, I'd build one. However, that's not exactly easy at the moment with prices and availability the way they are.
This will be a great little machine that will serve its purpose. Our current computers are 3rd gen i7's with HDD's. This will be a huge upgrade for half the price of what we were looking at.
Now, if you plan on gaming moderately to heavy, look elsewhere. If you want replaceable parts, look elsewhere.

My first "real" build was a thermaltake aluminum full sized case with 7x 80 MM
Whats the $9 fee for?
