Hilo side is a bit cooler (lower 80's), and the beaches are mostly rocky, but they are worth visiting.
Prices can be ludicrous, people were resorting to renting uhauls just to get around.

We used turo when we got married there a few years ago. Had a very good experience but I'm sure it varies a lot depending on the person loaning it

Plenty of cars on turo
We had a trip planned for July where our rental cars were $468 for 8 days each on Kauai and The Big Island. Ended up changing our trip to November and Kauai is now $1068 for the car and $572 on the Big Island. We switched to Maui for a cheaper car. Flights were similar prices for both trips.
I would, but can't find a dealt his good for Cancun
Don't need rental cars in Hawaii public transportation is pretty good.
