I'm on the big island right now. Kona side is warm (upper 80's most days) and muggy, but there are a lot of great beaches. Sun is intense here as well, definitely need lots of sunscreen.

Hilo side is a bit cooler (lower 80's), and the beaches are mostly rocky, but they are worth visiting.
Rental cars are scarce there right now due to fleet sell offs that happened last year.
Prices can be ludicrous, people were resorting to renting uhauls just to get around.
Book your rental car before pulling the trigger on the flight.

Yup, expect to drop $2-3k for the rental car if you stay more than a week.
Well then it isnt worth going. Last time I went tickets cost me $1500 and rental car cost me $240. Cheaper to wait till ticket prices go back up unless you book somewhere with a shuttle and hardly go anywhere.

Aren't they requiring you to quarantine for 10 days AFTER arrival? You may want to check the CDC's website

We are going to Hawaii in 2 days. Had to use "Turo" to get a car. Personal vehicles of residents.

We used turo when we got married there a few years ago. Had a very good experience but I'm sure it varies a lot depending on the person loaning it

Negative NAAT test within 72 hours of departure works to bypass quarantine. They are also going to accept COVID vaccine soon to bypass.

We had a trip planned for July where our rental cars were $468 for 8 days each on Kauai and The Big Island. Ended up changing our trip to November and Kauai is now $1068 for the car and $572 on the Big Island. We switched to Maui for a cheaper car. Flights were similar prices for both trips.

I was reading some comments regarding the rental car shortage and WOW! Residents sure hate tourists even though they rely on tourism dollars. People should just boycott Hawaii and see how long they can survive without tourists. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Cancun is a much better deal. The people there welcome your business and are super friendly. Treat them with respect and they go above and beyond for you.
lol places like Hawaii would be just fine without outside help weather is nice so u can grow year round everything else is extra

That's only if you're not vaccinated and don't take a covid test prior to going. It hasn't been mandatory quarantining for months and months. I know several people who've vacationed in Hawaii already this year with no issue. Just taking a test within 3 days before at a place that's recognized/recommended by airline/Hawaii.
