The only thing I don't like about this game is the combat system. But, for better or worse, there's not really much incentive to battle when you don't have to, so you can pretty much avoid enemy encounters and be fine. It's worth putting up with it for everything else.

The N64 and GCN games are still the best imo but Nintendo has said they have moved away from those RPG elements in the Paper Mario series unfortunately.

I have yet to try it, but the battle system is the exact reason why I'm so hesitant to pick this game up. Love paper Mario and the humor and art direction, but also loved the battle system in the prior games as well. I would love another Super Mario RPG...legend of the 7 stars was my fave. Had such an engaging battle system for a turned based rpg. Wish more turned based rpgs followed that same engaging battle system.
I wish they would consider patching and giving the player the option to play the old way.
