I have two, they're great and are much more portable than the HK Onyx, but the onyx 4 might be a tad louder and looks cooler if you need it to fit in to decor. The JBL has a much larger battery. Can't really go wrong with either.

I bough the HK from the recent deal just to compare it to the JBL since people were raving about how good it was while plugged in, figured it would be a nice addition if we are visiting a friend that doesn't have a nice sound system handy at their house but I'm not expecting much as far as a portable device

They're 2 sides of the same coin and aim for slightly different use cases. JBL floats and is waterproof and the battery is over 3x larger, HK looks fancy and specs say it might have more plugged-in kick.
