You just don't get it do you. Tsk tsk

My sympathies to those around you on a daily basis. They must have the patience of a saint. 🙏
And what, play angry birds?
Ok please price out one, it should have:
An 8 core series 5 ryzen processor
A 3060 gpu,
16 gb of ram
Screen
512gb m2 ssd
Wifi/Bluetooth
Motherboard
Windows (legit copy)
Psu
Keyboard/mouse
Case

Of course it will perform a bit better, but I would be amazed if you can piece it together for less than twice the $830 price possible here

Also make sure you are pricing an itx board and compact psu for the case

I don't game but am looking to replace my WFH computer. I need something powerful with a good screen and a numeric keypad. I don't travel so portability and battery life aren't so important. Would this be a good option vs. the more traditional non gaming laptops with similar processors? My impression is that most deals have lessor displays than this. Is there any reason why this can't function well for work via VPN?

Thanks in advance.

Seriously this would be overkill for what you're describing. You'd be more than fine with the i5 deal for $650 + $65 cash back I mentioned above.

What are your needs? Maybe you don't even need that. A lot of people would be fine without the graphics card and just use integrated onboard graphics.

Guys invest in a SFFPC.

Desktop GPU's outmuscle laptop GPU's easily.

Plus, SFFPC can be very portable if you go 6 Liters or smaller. For example, Skyreach 4 Mini with a Portable 15 inch monitor.

Granted, a gaming laptop is still MORE portable, but loses out on upgradeability, has heat problems, the plastic and stuff means stuff won't last long, and the performance difference is noticeable. You're also not tied down to a specific resolution or monitor. If one part breaks, just swap it. With this, if screen is dead, then there's little you can do.
Most people would prefer not to have a SFFPC when they're at Starbucks, on a plane or in a hotel. That's not even considering the fact that desktop GPU's are priced through the nose and no one can source one at msrp unless they have a bot or refresh websites all day and night.

If you don't game, this is WAY overkill. Steer away from anything with a discrete graphics card (unlless it's a bottom tier one) since you're paying a premium for a feature that's useless to you.

Thanks for the replies. So the GPU isn't needed for streaming movies etc? I do want a nice bright display though.

We do marketing for tier 1 global brands and when it comes to designing things, color accuracy matters

Weve gotten used to great external monitors with like 125% plus srgb and like at least 90% adobe rgb
It is hard to find a laptop with the muscles and great screen at a 1200 price range... Gigabyte aero are great with their oleds but a bit too pricey since we don't need that level of screen... 100 srgb is mostly good enough but must be at least delta E <= 2

Whatever is required for movies can easily be managed by the modern processors combined with the integrated graphics. If you have a budget in this range, I would suggest trying to get other cool non-gaming features like touch screen (and 360 degree hinge), maybe 4k display, or ultra portable laptop (the ones with dedicated GPUs are typically heavier coz of the weight of the Gpu, as well as the extra fans required to cool the GPU..

LG Gram, HP Spectre, Dell Studio series comes to mind, look out for deals on those, and you would have a much better bang for your buck.

Are you going to train neural networks?
Else, this does not make too much sense, honestly. You can find a cheaper laptop that meets your requirements.

For Starbucks? Laptops of course.

For Hotel? SFFPC all day.

The Dirty Way Manufacturers are Downgrading Your PC/Laptop.

When laptop manufacturer first sold their laptop, they may sold with better memory that is 20% faster (likely cost the manufacturer more money) so the initial review and performance testing would produce better result.
Memory manufacturers are changing the density of RAM in laptops, and the performance impact is staggering. The testing in the youtube video show 20% performance difference.

And the issue is laptop memory density usually not show in any spec. You have to open your laptop and really visually look at the memory to figure it out.

Actually, even the review units seemed to have the same crappy RAM. If you watched that whole video, while they are not transparent about the RAM they are using, they are not sending out different RAMs to reviewers and actual retailers.
