Add to cart for discounted price. You may need to sign into your account to see the early access July 4th sales. You might be able to stack the 25% code which is generic from the Pet Trails game on the app. Only works in store. Never had a problem using it on anything in store. I remember someone was able to use all 3 codes on a aquarium awhile back (15%, 20%, and 25%) but that's super ymmv. https://imgur.com/a/fy2PbIB

Correct, moving over the media and substrate moves over the beneficial bacteria/arachaea. Since you are moving the same fish, then the bioload does not increase. Once you have the bacteria/arachaea established, they will continuously perform their role. It doesn't matter that you've moved them to a new glass box to do it. It's like thinking that the fish have to learn how to breathe or eat all over again just because they got transferred.

In reviews, there is a very high rate of people complaining about their tanks cracking (about 17% reviews are 1 star). Anyone have personal experience with these?

Wondering the same. How often do they need to be cleaned? Haven't owned a fish in many years. Wondering what's changed with filtration technology and just general know-how. Thanks!

As a former fish-owning rookie, I would highly recommend NOT getting a tank less than 5 gallons. I kept a poor betta fish in a 2g for years and the more I learn about taking care of fish, the more I feel terrible for my ignorance.

As far as betta fish in general, they are not as dirty as something like a goldfish, so a 5 gallon tank can be in the monthly-upkeep time (25% water change, change filter out, etc.). Also, not sure if I need to say this, but you should only keep one betta fish in a tank at a time.

I think the starter tanks are awesome and come with a lot that you need. In addition to the kit, some plants and substrate are pretty standard. You'll want flat leafs that your betta fish can sleep/hang out on and hide in.

How often a 10 gallon tank needs to be cleaned if I go with something like Neon tetras? I like to own one tank but thinking about maintenance.

It's acrylic, so cleaning requires some care. You can scratch it quite easily with the wrong material. Nothing much has changed in filtration, except the abundance of hang on back filters that use proprietary media cartridges. You can substitute them with anything that will fit in the same space and provide mechanical and biological filtration. Replacing cartridges removes the majority of nitrifying bacteria, so it's both not necessary and not beneficial.

Make sure to take your time cycling your new tanks! You'll save a lot of money and fish having it pre cycled. Good luck!
I cycled/ treated my current tank 2 weeks before buying the fish. Told the wife let's just get a few fish to ensure it's safe. Nope, got 8 for a 20 gallon tank. Next morning had 7 floaters. Luckily Petsmart takes them back for 14? days, have to bring in the carcasses. They tested the water sample (pretty inconclusive), but said to replace 25% of water with bottled spring water & give it a week to cycle. I'll give it one more try before I assume fish are not my thing.

Did you get a water test kit? Worth the investment (It's like $25) to make sure your tank is good to go before introducing new fish.

If you don't overload the bio system then you should be good with 50% weekly water changes. Planted tank can go longer as plants will consume ammonia from fish and food waste.

I've wanted to get a small tank for my kid but these comments make this seem complicated lol. When I was a kid I set up a tank and put fish in the same day, and they lasted for years -- i even gave them away when i got rid of my tank. I guess I just got lucky? Or maybe fish just used to be tougher in the 90s lol.
