also you don't need expedia. flights prices are generally the same across any booking site - barring a few bucks.
Pictures don't lie.
Yes, the tech companies bring outrageous huge salaries to the area and bid up housing costs. Landlords start fires and do other types of illegal and legal shenanigans to capture a substantial portion of that tech-related money. The people evicted try to find another place but are often priced out, no Section 8, there are years of waiting for even disabled people to get a roof over their heads, if ever. The trauma is hard to deal with, many fall into despair and end up in their cars and then the streets. The local government has tons of grifters employed to "manage the homeless" which are the obvious end result of this policy which involves plenty of bad actors from the Feds on down. "Mental health services" are "needed" for these severely traumatized people. If you are forced into living in your car there are a whole lot of ways the status quo makes this illegal- especially in the suburbs- and the cops aren't always nice about it.
So yeah, rather than having a national policy to require all citizens safely housed, we create traumatized individuals and families who are in such deep despair and poverty that many live in tents and cars to survive. We demonize our fellow citizens for having for not winning the lottery to be able to afford "market rent" always, for their entire life. And money that could be used to house people- $57,000 is shown here- goes onto the pockets of politicians, county workers, shrinks, police, etc. rather than a fraction of that just being used to provide a home for these people.
And just wait for the other shoe to drop from the pandemic restrictions being lifted…. You may be joining the ranks of the homeless as Wall Street and Blackrock triple down on snapping up even more properties and driving up the price of housing even further. My advice: buy a van, put a mattress in it and keep it gassed up. God bless America.
It is true....I live in the Bayarea.
Also, if you don't live in The Bay this thread should have little impact on you so GoFox your friends elsewhere.
