Yeah that's disappointing to me too. I came from the dreamscreen so I was used to full ambient light. I do like the gradient strip syncs with HomeKit and what not tho.
Philips is significantly more expensive but uses state of the art technology to sync to the tv. I believe the knock off on Amazon uses a camera to read the colors of the TV. Philips reads the color through the HDMI input.
