Just bought the Mercury Gray Samsung Galaxy Chromebook for $499.50 no trade-in with my education discount. It is $549.45 with employee discount. https://www.samsung.com/us/comput...0QCA-K01US
For people on the fence, (and this may be very obvious to some), this won't be a good replacement for a laptop if you're used to doing more than just basic web browsing. I had a number of chromebooks, from dirt cheap to top of the line because time and again I tricked myself into thinking this time I could make do with it, but I just couldn't.
YMMV of course. This one looks very nice, so I'm once again tempted, but I would be insane to think this time it will somehow be different than all other times it didn't work out.

Seeing this deal is especially painful given that my spin 713 (which is currently "taking a victory lap for 2021" apparently), is sitting in acer's warranty queue!
To think I was split between it and the galaxy at almost twice this deal's price; was too weak for vertical ratio displays. I could have taken the heat.
Great deal if you can get it, these are super nice.
If you browse the web - or, even do all your work on the web like a lot of people do, this can easily be your own and only device. Provided you don't expect more than 5-6 hours max on battery. And if you can live with the silver keyboard which SUCKS for visibility.
As I sit typing this on my Fiesta Red Galaxy Chromebook I must alert everyone: the keyboard on the Mercury Gray is shockingly hard to read in even normal lighting conditions! I bought the Mercury Gray first (due to availability) and promptly shipped it back in favor of the white letters on red key background of the Fiesta Red model.
The keyboard on both models is backlit, but the Mercury Gray model was the first time I'd find myself struggling to hit the backlight keys even in a well lit room just so that I could clearly see the gray on gray keyboard. Some may have better eyes than me, but the keyboard color scheme on the Mercury Gray model definitely seemed like a style over function decision.
Im not getting the same price. I logged in with my edu info, but the price is stuck at $829 with trade in. Did anyone else have any luck getting it to $499?
I got in on this with wife teacher id.me. Great price for great hardware, just poor battery life but I will be plugged in most of the time so non-issue for me.
You can sort of install windows on it, but still no trackpad or audio working but you can use BT headphones and mouse...I may try this when mine comes in.
No 4k Oled, i5 Windows laptop with this kind of build quality for $500.
My kid uses my Toshiba Chromebook 1 that I bought 6(?) years ago for school work the past year and it is still running great even without updates. However as many have stated it does not replace a Windows laptop. Using a wireless printer on that thing is a pain, keeps losing link to it and having to reconnect/install is no fun, but it is a great web browsing laptop.

I definitely bought this Chromebook in part for its support of KVM to run a Windows 10 virtual machine. You actually shouldn't need any of the hoops listed in that reddit, but I haven't take the time to run it myself (I've only gotten as far as setting up a Linux installation).

Seriously, if you're not buying this for the screen you should be shopping something else.
Good luck!
