Good price on a decent knife. Lowest price and some other Gerber deals to choose from. Not great steel but the Amazon packages won't know the difference.

What type of steel is this? I don't see any mention of it.

7Cr17Mov, very budget Chinese stainless steel. Frankly, Gerber's budget offerings have been a bit underwhelming for the last several years due to fit and finish and QC issues. Even if I needed a budget EDC knife right now, I'd be hard pressed to jump on this deal for this particular knife.

At this price point, spend like $5 more and get an Ontario Knife Co RAT II. They're really nice.

I wish I would have just got a RAT II and stopped buying all these sale knifes, from the start.

All things being equal, the AUS-8 alone on the RAT II is worth the price difference over 7Cr17MoV.

However, just having a decent EDC knife isn't always enough to going down the rabbit hole and buying more knives...

(I'll also humbly offer that an ESSE/BRK Zancudo is also a viable alternative in AUS-8 as well. I carried mine for years before it somehow disappeared.)

It says it is 5.3oz. If so that is extremely heavy for a pocket knife, and it's probably a horrible choice for "EDC".

If you can get a better knife for the same money, then obviously get the better steel. With that said people obsess to their detriment of what steel is in a pocket knife. There's nothing wrong with 7Cr17Mov. People had similar 440a knifes for decades and they worked great.

One of my favorite carry knives is a free knife that my friends company gave away as a sort of business card. It has cheap plastic scales. It doesn't have any cool opening mechanism. I'm sure it is made of dirt cheap stainless steel. But, it weighs in under 2.0 oz for a 3.5" blade so you don't even feel the weight, and it was free.

People would be much better served if they just bought what they liked at an inexpensive price, and then spend a little money on a sharpening system.

And maybe because of that, we now realize the quality of made in China products are garbage and will make an active effort to avoid it in the future.
