You don't have to empty it everytime. I have something like this filled with water. My son loves it. Problem is that these cheap little pools aren't well made. Mine already burst at the seam on first use. It's still usable with the little water it holds

Fun fact, 88percent of water from California's 2 largest reservoirs has been dumped in the ocean in the last 2 years. I hope corporate interests haven't funded environmental lobbying groups to create a crisis on which they may make billions of dollars. That would be unfortunate.
