I have these as my 2.1 desktop, paired with Aiyima A07 and umc404hd dac. They sound clearer and fuller than my older lsr305 setup. Really good bang for the buck.

P.S. I originally bought these for fronts for my TV setup, but they definitely shine brightest as nearfield only.

They sound even better if you remove the grill and install the bottom piece of the wave guide.

Bought these for my desktop setup last month for a 2.1 nearfield -- wow, great stuff.

Now all I need is a sale on 590s/Infinity RC263 to upgrade my HT setup.

What did you use as the amp?

Disregard. Saw the next post

There are a ton of similar amps like it

God why the hell does it look like a massive horn. While I generally love JBL, the design is def. acquired

It is a massive horn and it is glorious. I have 3 590s for my LCR and they sound amazing.

How well do these pair with a full 7.1 Infinity Reference setup? I'm thinking about swapping out the Infinity 162 front channels for 530's.

Not worth it IMO. I tried both and they're very similar. 530s had a bit more bass so I kept it since I only have a 2.0 music setup. Plus it's better match your center channel with your L and R mains

Audio newb question: Think these would be fine to replace some old school full size speakers that I only use for TV with an old school 100w JVC receiver, or maybe I should get some towers in the same price range when they come up?

If you care about convenience and a smaller footprint, you'd be better off with a Soundbar plus a wireless subwoofer. Much smaller, easier set up, decent enough sound for TV.

If you want better sound quality, you could go with Jamo floor standers for more bass(https://www.adorama.com/ja1064578.html) or Elac Bookshelf speakers for better quality (https://www.adorama.com/elcdb62bk.html) and drive them with your old receiver.

These are bookshelf speakers with a 5.25" driver so it depends on your room size and how loud you like to listen to your TV. Generally speakers of this size are meant to be used in small to medium sized rooms.

The bottom piece of the grill still has the waveguide included, just fabric covered for looks.

The lower wave guide attached to the grill doesn't work as good as the smooth plastic piece they give you. The fabric absorbs and/or interferes with the tweeter's sound wave frequencies from blending with the midrange driver. There is also alot of plastic reinforcement behind the cloth that blocks the mid driver. They sound a little more open and natural without the grill.
