like metal studs? how does it work? pick the right size and strip the rest off? is this $34 retail for real?
You just keepm drilling ever expanding hole until it is the right size. It is perfect for sheet metal applications like metal studs (although self-tapping screws wouldn't need a hole at all). You can get a set iof 3 cheap-o step drills from Harbor Freight for < $20. They are fine, but not likely as durable. I wouldn't pay $34 for a single bit.

Flat-out WRONG, and indicative of someone who never uses step-drill bits.

Single flute bits are what you want. Dual flute bits walk as they cut. You start the hole in one location, and each time it starts cutting the next largest hole size, the center moves a little bit.
Well, that was just ignorant.... look at the tapered cutting flutes and there is no 'jumping.' The hardest part is starting the original hole with these junk bits that often requires using a straight bit for a pilot hole.

You keep using the junk and maybe someday you can afford a decent bit and if using everyday, upgrade your tools to be more productive.

Got a message today that it's been delayed, and I had to accept the delay online or else it would be cancelled.

See Adam Savage's most recent video on his favorite tools. He says there is no appreciable difference between the cheap and expensive step drills. If you're doing thousands of holes, yes. But even for him he says the Harbor Freight ones are fine.

Ahh SHEEPLE

Whoever Adam Savage is?? Anyway, Harbor Freight bits will drill one hole. Then you have to switch to a quality bit...REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE vs 'what I watched on the inter webs'.
