There absolutely is a grind in the 7-9 book range, but it's worth powering through. Especially when you get to the Brandon Sanderson written books (last 3).
I appreciate the massive spoiler.
Ok deal, picked up 4 and 5. I'm almost finished with one and I'm hooked.

Wonder if the whole series will go on sale as Amazon gets closer to launching their live action series

Many think book 4 is arguably the best. There is the "grind" you have to go through in the middle books. I've reread the series many times, with not being able to get through the grind. Each time, I get farther. Maybe one day I will finish the series. I can't wait for the Amazon series though.

Ordered Books 4 and 5. Have been patient waiting for $2.99, but this is still great. Almost halfway to having them all 😀

Not a good deal unless you really have to read these now. They've frequently dropped to $1.99-2.99.

It's a great series, but story just kind of keeps rebooting, in a repeating overall framework. When I found out they were still pumping them out as I was reading volume 12, I finally bailed.

It's been many years, but I think you're good with five or six. Just hard to find a stopping point at the end of any particular book, is how they get you.

For me books 6-10 constituted the grind. In fact, I still haven't made it through 10 on my 3rd or 4th attempt at finishing the series. It may have started earlier with that horrible menagerie/circus. Ugh...

Yah, I hear that it ends well with Sanderson, that's why I keep trying to get there.

Honestly, you might just speed read 10 and maybe 11 because very little happens if I recall correctly and you could probably fill in gaps with an online search.

The first 1-5 are great. Never made it past 6. Supposedly picks up later. It does get back on tarck and ends. Sanderson is a good writer. Definitely reccomend Stormlight and Reckoners.

I've switched to audible and trying to power through that way. It is still hard due to lots of braid tugging and dress describing. I've also come to believe a lot of fantasy and scifi writers don't know much about reltionships besides women are smart and guys are dumb oafs.

I know it isnt all high fantasy, but authors like John Conroe & Sanderson know how to pump out entertaining stories without bogging down into unecessary descriptions. Even if Sanderson has a fetish for creating magic systems.
