This isn't food, it's a treat. Cane molasses is the 7th ingredient listed, it's not a sugar bomb. There are under 2 grams of sugar in each treat.

Considering the scarcity of Trader Joes in general, and the fact you have to drive there, it's a poor alternative to offer.

When a company uses the word cane molasses, they are trying to trick you into thinking its not sugar. Sugar is terrible for dogs, stay away. If you want a good alternative go to trader joes and get the freeze dried chicken strips for dogs, not this junk.

As someone else pointed out the molasses is well down the ingredient list. It probably could/should be removed, but as a once a day treat its fine. Funnily enough Amazon recommended me another brand when I looked at these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...9XG9K&th=1 'premium treats for dogs', flour, sugar, oil, oil, corn syrup. Now that is awful, even as just a treat.

No you are skipping over the banana which is basically pure sugar too. I was just pointing out when companies try to avoid saying stuff is sugar to trick people, its a good indicator to avoid them.

As I pointed out to the other person it also has banana as the 3rd top ingredient, plus I have no clue what their definition of "yogurt" is and how much sugar is in that. We are quickly adding up to a bar that is just oats and sugar.

It makes sense to think of dogs as carnivores because of their ancestry, but domestication has made them into omnivores. They still need a higher % of meat/protein than people do, though.

Having said that, these treats appear to be vegetarian, so I wouldn't purchase them either.

I learned so much about sugar for dogs from this thread. Gonna avoid feeding my dogs too much biscuits and treats. Such a sad life since I can't afford raw food either and they have to eat kibble all the time

Judging by all the raw food recalls I've seen over the years I'd avoid a raw food diet. Give them exercise, a decent kibble and love.

It's a treat, not food. People need to lighten up. What about that bag of fat laden almonds you just ate while sitting at your computer? Calories matter. My dog eats plenty of non-meat items including green beans and bread. She's perfectly healthy. Dogs haven't been carnivores for several thousand years.
