Mobiletechreview has just published the review in YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsqhIj-G10w
Some of the findings:
  • This does have a Fingerprint Reader at the bottom Right Corner.
  • The Display can actually go brighter than 400 nits for the FHD+ which most reviewers got. It went at max brightness of 471 nits. This is also a Matte Display with no reflection and hence the outdoor visibility is very good.
  • The Color Gamut is actually better than similarly priced laptop which mostly covers 100% sRGB. This covers that but also, 82% Adobe RGB and 86% DCI-P3 which makes it pretty good for color accurate work.
  • The Out of the Box calibration is also very good with Delta E of just around 1.
  • Due to the 43 WHr Battery life, lot of people were worried about Battery life. Both MobileTechReview and Andrew from AMDTech have found out that with 150 nits of brightness, it can last nearly 10 hours for YouTube Playback or Web surfing tests. So, in real world mixed usage, they've estimated around 8 hours.

How does this compare to the Lenovo ideapad 5 for $679 other than screen size and price of course? The internals seem similar. Use case is for a new engineering college student.

Different class of laptop.
But if form factor doesn't mean anything to you, you're paying ~$300 more for a newer processor architecture, newer HDMI spec, wifi6.

Thanks! Which one of the two will be sturdier and expected to last longer given that it will likely be on 24/7 and moved around a lot for a student.

Yes, it is. But no extra slot, you need to replace the existing one.

First of all, the quality of display on this one is far superior than IdeaPad 5. IdeaPad 5 has a 300 nits display with just around 60% sRGB whereas this one has a 400 nits display with 100% sRGB and it has higher resolution QHD+ 16:10 display.
Regarding build quality, IdeaPad 5 has full metal construction and as per reviews of the last gen model using same chassis but 4000 series CPU, it's pretty sturdier as well. For this aero 13, it's a new launch and not much information available about the build quality yet.

Kinda tempted, at little higher priced than I was looking. Only negative is small battery and not a touchscreen. If both of those were true, the price would be right.

Any idea if HP enforces their restocking fee on laptops?

Earlier this year, at least for me, 15%, yes.

Under my reason or explanation I wrote about heat concerns. They listed the reason on their side as, "Buyer's remorse."

It was processed very quickly.
