Pro also has different cooling and is thicker maybe to accommodate the cooling. Haven't heard if it runs cooler.
It definitely is quiet for a gaming laptop, while playing demanding games in a warm 79 degree room fans we're pretty much running around 30% load gentle hum, during benchmarks it ramps up maybe 60% still not too loud and stable 81c. While mundane office tasks and browsing the fan is either not on or really low speed I can't hear it at all. In a cold hotel room around 65 degrees the fans rarely make any sounds, thermal management is excellent in this Pro 5

I like this deal. And I find the best deals are in the month of August.

Serious question though, is this graphics card fast enough to handle most AAA titles @ a decent frame rate right now at 1080p with a 3060, and I guess similarly, is this future proof enough that I can get at least 3 or so years without massively regretting it?

I'm definitely not the most demanding user, I don't need max settings turned up all the way on everything, just good quality smooth gaming @ 1080p for most titles.

I think it should be good. Here's a review of the Pro which has the same CPU and GPU but moves up to a 4k screen: https://www.seekdevice.com/news/l...ro-review/
Those extra pixels should hurt framerates, but as you can see, it holds up pretty well. If you use the 1080 screen on the non-Pro version, you should be pretty good.
You can also see some FPS tests here which is done on the non-Pro version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oREdpnO5hi4
It seems like this is doing pretty well and in same cases hitting about the same numbers as the 3070
These mobile GPUs aren't as beefy as the desktop ones, but they're pretty impressive

Because it was a YMMV unicorn. Talking about it is bragging and douchie.
At the same time the largest complainers were the ones who refused to get off the couch and look for one not to mention also exacerbated by the fact scalpers probably with Walmart insiders poaching them as soon as they come in.

Thanks for the well-informed response, I will check these links out. I am 100% completely fine with 1080p instead of 4K for the screen. Even if I just game at 1080p, I'm fairly sure the 4K screen would just also be a drain on battery life regardless. And the 17" screen on this is perfect for me - I'm not planning on being extremely mobile with this thing, so size and weight make NO difference to me, I just need slightly more mobility than a desktop would offer.

My main use for this thing would be to run some various games through Steam, maybe use Xbox Game Pass, and a few other odds and ends (mostly gaming related). Again, my main concern is avoiding a situation where 3 years from now, I'm sad that I didn't spend the extra few hundred today for the next step up - but this sounds pretty good based on your response. I don't ever need the latest and greatest settings enabled, I just want "pretty good" at 1080p and a good framerate and there would be no complaints from me.

The Pro is a 4k screen and generally has a 3070 (but can be a 3060). It's also more expensive and unavailable. It's a 16" screen

Ok deal if you have a microcenter near by as you don't have to wait for the crazy shipping time. Still doesn't match up to the Walmart deal for $100 more or the previous Lenovo website deal (though many got cancellations). The pro 5 has a better and brighter screen as well. 3060 to 3070 is also a big jump.
What 'crazy shipping time'? They shipped next day. (I ordered on 7/20. Shipped 7/21.)

The Pro has a QHD/1440p screen.

I went with this deal for a few reasons:
1) It's readily available.
2) It has an sd card reader (the 15" and Pro models do not).
3) No sales tax in my state for some reason.

If anyone has any questions, please ask and I'll do my best to answer.

PS. Note that the RAM configuration is 2x8GB, not 1x16GB as the spec sheet says. The RAM itself is Micron MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2E2. It's rank 1rx16, but has good tRFC timings (350/560/416/256). The SSD is a Samsung PM981a. Pretty solid.

Just checked and it's out of stock. And yes, same price but this deal is a 17 inch which is significantly larger than a normal 15 inch. About 25% more screen of that of any 15.6'', but again, depend on your preference.
