It's brazen enough that the movie starts out so comedically with Taika playing Hitler as the imaginary friend of a little boy. You can't expect the entire movie to be a comedy, especially when centered around one of the worst periods of human history.

The first half sets up the characters as endearing and lovable. The second half is where the movie truly shines. Going from laughable, physical comedy, to a heartfelt drama is what makes this movie good.

The chubby friend, Archie Yates, has a lot of potential.

Looks like he will be in the Home Alone reboot due out at the end of this year.

Disagree. This movie is trying to be light-hearted and tragic at the same time. Reminds me of Adam Sandler's "Click". Movies can achieve both, but usually requires changing the tone of the film between acts.

one of my favorites and I'm not a movie guy. We need more goofy fun like like this.

One of my favorites too. However, still heavily tinged with tragedy - both sweeping and personal. Hard to take the juxtaposition for some folks.

Good movie overall, but I felt the first half was much better than the second half. Not much goofy fun in the 2nd half. This type of material either needs to stay goofy or stay serious, as it doesn't work very well in between.

yeah, not too many movies can pull off that mix of comedy and tragedy. I have quirky tastes.

Saw this a month before it released with Taika in attendance and the audience was all fans of his films at the famous Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. It was a really amazing experience and Taika did a Q&A after. I recommend the film a ton but don't know how many times it's re-watchable.

Finkle, I meant we'd need dogs for when the city is attacked, not actual German shepherds!

Never saw this but heard good things about it, Question? Am I going to want to watch this more than once?
