The idea is it can't shed metal bristles into your food like a traditional one can
I agree but after finding tiny brush wires stuck to my grates I switched to this type. It's not as good but it's a functional alternative.

Solution - I use a bristle brush to scrub, then I use my wooden paddle to do a final brush.
Why it works for me - I'm okay with having two brushes (I bought the wooden first and since it didn't work well, I bought the bristle again.) I figure - okay, well I can clean it well with the bristle... and if the wooden one doesn't brush off the bristle after... then... well.. it didn't work to begin with.
Illogical or logical, it works for me, haha.
