I'd put this up on a ground contact rated wood base and you'd be fine. If you allow the wood to dry periodically, it will last much longer. Also seal the wood.
We've had this for a couple years and it looks great. If you live in a wet climate you might want to seal it, but we have a short rainy season.

Even at full price it is a great value in terms of how much time or kids spend playing in it. One thing I learned though is depending on the age of the child, you may periodically have to replete the sand as it gets toted out to other parts of the yard, and hope not too much ends up in your house.
For those looking for a cheaper and larger option, I did buy a $10 round inflatable pool at Walmart and filled it with ~500 lbs. of sand. It's great and my son loves it. It's probably 5.5' in diameter so slightly larger than this if you have the space. Plus Amazon sells a compatible cover for the pool if you need it covered. Mine is under a patio cover so I leave it uncovered. Once toys are added and more than one kid, you're gonna be happy you have the extra space.

Consider that this has a 1 year warranty against rot, and a year is about all you can expect to get out of a wooden sand box. Suggest you to stick with plastic.

Our 4 year old wooden sandbox refutes that. Just make sure the box has plenty of drainage to prevent any standing water.

Bro, that is what the cover is for. Make sure any sandbox has a cover or lid.

"Kind of a sharp glass like crunch that sends shocks of tooth and jaw pain plus the taste aroma of second hand kitty food." The Great Carnac says ,"What's the taste sensation of Kitty Rocca from a sandbox?"
