It's on par with recent Front Page deals. In May it was the same price but last Black Friday it was $90. The lowest it's ever been was $75 but that was way back in 2019 and all FP deals since then have been $88-100.

Previous FP deals here. (https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?q=plex+pass&pp=20&sort=newest&rating=frontpage&forumid%5B%5D=30&forumid%5B%5D=71&forumid%5B%5D=9&forumid%5B%5D=25&forumid%5B%5D=54&forumid%5B%5D=10&forumid%5B%5D=4&forumid%5B%5D=8&forumid%5B%5D=13&forumid%5B%5D=38&forumid%5B%5D=39&forumid%5B%5D=53&forumid%5B%5D=166&r=1)

Also, it doesn't include any tv shows or movies or anything. I believe those are free to watch (with ads) no matter what. Here's an in-depth difference (https://support.plex.tv/articles/202526943-plex-free-vs-paid/) but maybe some other users here could explain the difference better.

Yea I think this will be the price from here on out. Last time it was cheaper you had to do some vpn trick for like Brazil
09-15-2021 at 02:45 AM
Brazil loophole was fixed, it wasn't a vpn rather you changed your location to Brazil on their order form and used a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

For perspective, I waited and waited and waited. When I was fresh out of college like 10 years ago and had no money, I balked at the $75, then it blew to like $150. So I got it on sale like a year and a half ago for something like $100.

HAD I KNOWN HOW INCREDIBLE IT WAS GOING TO WORK OUT, I'D HAVE JUST PAID FULL PRICE. It is REALLY good. Even manages my podcasts (albeit not perfectly, it can't seem to follow some, it's intolerant of funny rss code, though it gets 95% of them right)

Protip: The NVIDIA Shield works SURPRISINGLY well as a server. It uses very little power compared to the great big Win10 box I cobbled together initially.

Without a plex pass you can view their free shows and movies, similar to imdbtv, crackle, etc. With the plex pass and a device like HDHomerun, hauppage, etc you can view and record antenna tv (cable with the right equipment/cable service) and function as a dvr. Plex is mostly intended for people that have their own media. It's free to run a server on your PC and offers all available free functions there. using the clients on roku, android, etc costs a small one time fee though. If you have music files it's a mediocre environment for things like playlists but adding plexamp is a nice addition for listening.

It's similar to Crackle with ad supported shows. It also allows you to DVR with an OTA antenna and a device like the silicon dust hdhomerun. The main draw is local media though.

The list of “channels” is similar to Roku’s channels. I find it all crap, but to each their own.

It is within a dollar or two of what you will probably ever get for a low price.

Basically what you get with the Lifetime Premium and not with the free basic is access to stream remotely...and I do not think that the online Plex channels are included with the free either. (I am not certain about the online Plex channels as I went premium before they became a thing) (FWIW, although I like the channels, this alone is not a reason to get it)

I think a lot will depend on if you will ever use this remotely. That was my question in the beginning.
I will just say this about Plex.. I bought the lifetime membership a few years ago, wondering if I was wasting money...and this is one of the most used things in my family.
It is by far and away one of the best purchases that I ever made...and no, I do not work for Plex and I have never had any contact with Plex outside of my subscription.

My situation is this. I travel to the coast a lot. I also went the cord-cutter route years ago. I have a 4 channel HD-HomeRun hooked up to an antenna in the attic of my home.
What I have found is that I either use a Roku or a Firestick (I have a few of both) to tune in my OTA TV via Plex, stream from my media server and watch a fair amount of the online channels that Plex has.
And because I can also stream all of this remotely, I get the same thing at the coast that I get in my primary home. Aside from the obvious benefit of the media server access and online Plex channels, even having the OTA access of my primary house is constantly used as it is much better than OTA at the coast.

Yes, the family does use Netflix, Prime, and Disney+...but Plex seems to get the most use.

I have even found some uses that I had never considered when I first set it up. One is having a few family members that have given me digitized copies of old Super-8 family films. I can load them on my media server and then send invitations to other family members... to allow them to stream these old home, family movies. Some members are stationed out of the country, so it would be a few years before they could get access otherwise.

And I have not even gotten into how my son can access Plex and utilize it while in college.
There are better alternatives. Emby and/or jellyfin. Both don't have all the trash that Plex has now and are just as easy to use and setup as Plex is.

Is this a good price for lifetime? Also, anywhere to find a list that shows what paid offers and free doesn't?

Regular plex supports 4K right? Other than HDR encoding what other major benefits does this add?

Syncing to mobile is a huge one for me. Downloading stuff before a flight has been fantastic.

I also use the live TV & DVR function a lot.

I wish there was a better alternative to Plex at this point. Since they've tried to do all these integrated free services, the UI is painful. And the settings to make it better are hidden deep within/reset themselves often.

If you have other needs disregard this: 99% of people here just want a Plex server for their home. Personally, I'd save the money and buy a nvidia shield, because it gets (the most important feature of Plex pass free) of hardware transcoding 3-4 streams. Otherwise, you'd need this, $90 and a 8th gen+ intel cpu to get similar performance.. you're looking at $300 for a 8th gen nuc

Edit: I'd like to add, if you did go with an 8th gen cpu, jellyfin does everything Plex pass does, but free

I wish I had never wasted money on one of these. Plex has really gone downhill over the last few years. I bought a plex pass mostly for the live TV features, but it's been a buggy mess on Android for years now. Support is non-existent and they couldn't seem to care less. I finally gave up and switched to Emby for my local media and Channels for live TV.

I don't know why people complain about Plex so much. It is kid and wife friendly.. my 6 year old can turn it on and navigate to her shows. I really don't want much TV, so maybe others who watch a ton have other issues.
