If your not going to overclock it that cl 16 matters pretty little. Good price for what it is

Thanks in advance, noob here:: Would this work in a Dell 8940 at 2933 or force it down to 2433 if we put this in the open 2 slots (i.e. use all 4 slots; (2 8gb oem dell) + above = 48gb ram.. or memory size mismatch causes complete failure of a faster system..

if memory serves I think dell wants 1.2volts and this is higher? ok maybe thats not good Frown

or more likely I need a computer friend!

It should work, but dual channel part would be limited to 32gb (smallest module size x 4).

99.9% of people don't need more than 16GB ram, let alone 32GB. Someone with a Dell 8940 I'm guessing is not a content creator?

If you really NEED more than the 16GB you have, either replace them with this kit and sell yours, or add 16GB of matching ram for much cheaper. If you're a creator, then depending on what you're doing you'd probably be looking at a new PC first.

Edit: also there's a chance your BIOS doesn't recognize the XMP settings of this kit, and might default to 2133. You'd need manual controls, which you might not have.

DDR5 is out in 2 months with the new Intel chipset. AMD should be sometime next year so it's a relatively good time to upgrade unless you want to wait on 4000 series GPUs.

I respectably disagree. I don't know about 99% of people, doesn't really matter since if you're reading this, you only care about your own computer. I have one system with 16GB and it gets bogged down to page file just from Firefox, until Firefox eventually crashes, and it's at 4GB memory usage for Firefox after it reloads fresh. In fact, if you can just put 32GB in the system and turn off the page file all together and if everything runs fine, your system will be much more responsive. You can't stop Windows from sending your data to the page file. It's obsessed with keeping memory free instead of using it for what you want. But, I do agree you don't NEED it. But I got computers that I been using daily since 2009 or earlier, so not too worried about $100 investment in extra RAM over the lifetime of a computer.

Sounds like your problem is Firefox. Also, don't turn off page file, it's required for crash reports and some programs won't work properly without it enabled
