The new s-class mercedes has something like this, obviously way more fancy but still a bit cheesy IMO.

I just hard wire a white LED strip to each footwell. Comes on when I open a door, functional and not obnoxious.

As is common on SD (and the internet in general) you have no clue what you are talking about. I got this in the last deal a month or so ago, and it is not even visible to anyone outside the car even at full brightness and a garish green or blue color. And it actually is a useful convienance for older folks like us who need all the light we can get to see. It helps me if I'm looking for something I dropped or a tool from my tool kit. I keep it on white. Oh, and it doesnt really bother me while driving but I usually keep it off while doing so anyway.

So does my wife's 2018 BMW. The difference is, it's a thin line of accent lights around the doors and trim features. Not as bright and (in theory) distracting as big aftermarket LED strips.

My 2014 Chevy Impala rental had them too, I thought it was pretty darn cool. I called them the TRON lights. My 2017 Lexus doesn't have them tho Frown

Sure, I have a small light that turns on, in my door panel, when the door is open.
I pull the door panel to see what color those wires are. Then I go under the dash, in the footwell, to locate those wire before they go into the door.
I just tap into those (+ and -) wires and zip tie the lights to the underside of the dash and that's it.
