The 4 is only 7.5 watts on battery, while the 6 looks like 50 watts. Also the "woofer" is only 2.95 inches on the 4, and 4.72 inches on the 6. While the listed frequency response is the same on each, 50hz to 20 kHz, the larger speaker is likely to sound better.
I literally own both of them dude. Also read reviews. The 4 has more bass than the 6. But way to be an ass for literally no reason
I bought a replacement battery on Amazon and it stays charged longer than the original ever did. It has been over a year of cranking music while I shower in the bathroom with no problems.

And the $118 Sony SRS-XB33 Review: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sony-srs-xb33
More than a "light show." Very good balanced sound.

The $250 Sony SRS-XB43 is PC Mag's Editor's Choice: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sony-srs-xb43
the environment shapes frequency response more than internal DSP on bluetooth speakers. When you put a speaker outside youre going to hear mainly the THD (total harmonic distortion) where the amp starts clipping and the speaker hits the limits of its power handling before you hear the "balanced sound" (not a real term used by loudspeaker designers, but yeah)

so with that being said, you cant cheat physics, the XB43 is a smaller speaker with a weaker amp (thats a function of how you get longer battery life out of a speaker with the same size battery.) The studio 6 will objectively measure better in terms of frequency response (especially outdoors at higher SPL levels)

if you want a smaller lightshow speaker that costs $100 more then get the xb43.

One of these fell off the back of a truck in front of my house.

I turned it on, paired my phone to it. Still sounded great. Ordered a charger for it off Amazon and I've been using it 5ish times a week for the last 6 months with no issue.

Pretty impressed for a speaker that fell off a truck, the fabric's kind of torn but it was the slickest of deals.
for some reason reading this really made my day lol. repped.

Some folks on this thread are saying that the Studio 4 has better bass than the 6 but that's not what the reviewers on Amazon are saying.

The gist most get to is the 4 has amazing even sound across the spectrum but not for fans who need heavy bass.

They say the 6 has more power and bass in general than the 4 and should be better in outside environments compared to the 4.

Since I'm using for the backyard, in for one Studio 6.

2x75mm

1x120mm

A = πr^2

2*4476 = 8952mm^2

1*11309.73 = 11309.73mm^2

Onyx 6 has roughly ~21% more woofer surface area than the onyx 6.

of course thinking surface area of a woofer cone is the only variable in bass would be ignorant as well. there is the xmax (function of the rubber surround and spider suspension,) and the power handling (usually related to magnet size), and also the tuning of the port (or in this case the tuning of the passive radiator,) among many other variables. Judging by the fact that the onyx 6 has only one tweeter but weighs about 30% more than the onyx studio 4 its likely that the studio 6 has a bigger battery AND has a heavier magnet structure than the onyx 4 two woofers.

So, no, it doesnt have "much more bass response", the studio 6 on paper blows the 4 out of the water. On top of that the onyx 4 is a horrible design (i had the onyx 1), the legs make it horrible to carry it around in a backpack, and the exposed passive radiator means you cant put anything on top of it for fear of screwing up the suspension (then it will permanently make a horrible buzzing noise.)
Former audio engineer here, now hobbyist. Logged in specifically to rip this comment. Onyx 1-4 has a typical stereo design with dual tweeters/woofers. It also has some type of "sub" woofer. The 5 and 6 have one woofer and one tweeter. It is mono. Yuk. Can never use with TV, computer, stereo music without a compromised experience.

If you are really going to hear sub tones anyways, you need an 8"+ cone. That is when you piss off your neighbors because you're literally generating 20 foot waves that penetrate everything. Neither of these speakers will come close to that, and what you want is the best overall sound, not the most overblown bass out of small speakers you can get...

Which brings me to the next point, SA doesn't mean BS. You look at cone sizes, and then you look at frequency responses. Throwing out a bunch of numbers and saying it will sound better is literally the least audiophile thing I have ever heard.

I bought the 4 to use as my computer speaker in a new apartment. Coming from 5" Near field monitors and a 10" sub, and previously owning and knowing the Onyx 1, I think the 4 will be a great compromise for good &fun but not spectacularly amazing sound. However the only time I would buy I mono speaker is if I buy 2 Wink

I have 2 jbl charge 3 from target clearance a few years ago. I use them linked. Would this be better than using the jbl setup. Will this link with the jbl charge 3? I think Harman and jbl are connected companies

Looks like someone on Amazon had the same idea and was pretty annoyed that it didn't work out that way.
Below is the review from Amazon about 1 year ago, so unless they've added it in a software update since then, it doesn't seem like you can do stereo with two of these through their app.

"I really wanted to be able to say I love these speakers, but I cannot. I bought these speaker on multiple people's recommendation that Harmon Kardon speakers produced the best sound and a quality speaker. I bought two Onyx 6 so I could have a quality sound in stereo experience and portability/flexibility to move these speakers around in my 900 sq ft condo. While the sound quality is there, it is not necessarily better than comparable Sonos or Bose speakers.
Here is why I'm very unhappy with these HK speakers. I called HK consumer tech support with no solutions offered other than to try to get my $$ back from the reseller.
1) While they are portable, if they are paired and disconnected from the power source or music is stopped for 15 min or longer, then they lose their pairing and you have to go through a tedious process of repairing them.
2) While you can pair two Onyx 6 speaker, when paired they only play dual sound and not true stereo sound.--that sucks considering I spent almost $1000 to get great stereo speakers
3) While there is an HK Connect app that lets you pair Onyx 4 (discontinued product) and earlier versions of HK Onyx speakers to produce true stereo sound, the app does not support Onyx 5 or 6. I was told by HK they don't know when or if they will ever fix the app to make this possible.
4) When I have the speakers paired to create dual (not stereo sound) if I move them move them more than 15 ft apart they start disconnecting from each other and the sound breaks up so you cannot truly use them to broadcast the music in different rooms.
Overall I feel like I wasted my money on these speakers. One could have produced the same experience as two. I could have bought Sonos or Bose and had true stereo without these issues. Calling Harmon Kardon was unhelpful. They offered no help to resolve any of the issues. They basically said I bought the wrong speakers for my 'use case'. I feel cheated.
BUY Sonos or Bose instead!"
