Yes, but most magnets are going to be weaker. Not as convenient to hold and the level is surprisingly helpful

Yes you can. I do have this tool but I have also used white board rare earth magnets in a pinch before. I usually use 2-3 of the smaller rare earth magnets just so I can visually snap a line between them. This magnet is strong and is easier to find the screw head with. The white board magnets won't work well if you don't have an idea of where to start.

Yes but most magnets are not as powerful as this one

Yes. This uses your drywaller's work. When they mount the drywall, they know exactly where the studs are and mount the drywall with metal screws. They sink these screws below the surface of the drywall and cover the heads with putty.

This finds those metal screw heads that are buried under the putty and painted over. If you find one, you can move up and find a row of screws. That row is where your stud is.

Yes. It will hang on the wall where the stud is and you can just go above/below. If the entire height of the spot is magnetic, may want to make sure you don’t have metal studs first (like I did) or else you will need toggle bolts to mount your tv securely.

best tool I own.
These would better be described as drywall screw/nail finders. Usually those are in the middle of a stud, but not always. Depends on the skill of the installer.

For hanging a picture, this is probably close enough. But if you're hanging a TV or heavy shelf or something, especially something with larger lags, finding the dead center of the stud is imperative. Whatever method I use to find the approximate location of the studs, I then be sure to find the stud edges by drilling small investigative holes and mark the center from there.
Same price at Home Depot. Lowe's too if you have them pricematch.

I have several types of stud finders, including the most expensive one. This is the best stud finder and I use it all the time.

Quote from beerguy419 :
Same price at Home Depot.
And HD has free shipping. No need for Prime.

I don't have a price tracker for HD, but there isn't any indication on the HD site that this is a sale price. Is this the normal everyday price?
