Booted it to BIOS and noticed RAM speed not seen by the MB as it should, so set everything manually and of course it tried to brick. Clearing CMOS, no luck. Pulling MB watch battery, no luck. Reseated everything but CPU and finally posted.
So in my case, it didn't want to boot the second time because I got tweak-happy a little too soon.
