Maybe it's just polarizing because some people love it while others don't.. I'm glad y'all can give it a try for free/cheap to figure out which camp you're in.
I was able to play with my Oculus Quest 1 with SW:S. Connect via ALVR and switch to VR mode in game, it auto connects. Though, idk, it's not what I expected. Haven't gone back after trying half of Mission 1 lol

Sorry that my wording was confusing. The VR experience was so much fun I didn't stop when I started feeling a little queasy. That was dumb on my part because it quickly progressed to severe nausea.
A game like this is considered PCVR, which means your computer runs it, and spits the VR graphics out to the unit, either with a special USB cable, or wirelessly with the free AirLink utility, that Oculus provides.
The OQ2 is primarily marketed as a standalone unit, meaning it runs tons of games natively on the headset, without the need for a PC. Using a PC opens the door to more demanding VR games, if your PC can handle it.
There are quite a few other options, but OQ2 is overall the biggest selling headset right now. Pros and cons to each model.
