Ads click through on scroll

73 26 October 8, 2021 at 05:26 PM
This is for the mobile iOS app.

I really hope this isn't an intentional dark pattern, but when scrolling through lists/comments and encountering an ad, if you drag on an ad in order to scroll, when you release it takes you to the ad's link.

It should only click to the link if there is no scrolling, which is how all other links in the app work (e.g. dragging a deal while scrolling doesn't take me to that deal).

Ah, so I've started playing around with it, and I think it depends on the ad.

It looks like what I described above is definitely happening for Apple Music ads — and those sometimes are a bigger version that overflow over the deals.

But other ads don't seem to do this.

However, there are some ads that don't allow scrolling. E.g. I try to drag the ad up to scroll, and it doesn't respond to gestures at all.

Yes I've been getting the Apple Music ad issue fairly frequently over the last month or so.

You just barely touch the ad when attempting to scroll past it and it pops you out of the Slickdeals app and into the App store.
