R-41Ms if anyone's asking.
Personal opinion/experience: After being obsessively in love with Klipsch for at least a decade, I arrived to the conclusion that klipsch in general may be very good for movies, but not so much for music due to their harsh tweeters. And this model in general is of their lower end line, which have aluminum tweeters that are their harsher sounding ones. All in all, due to my use for both movies and music, I had to migrate to non-horn tweeter speakers and have no regrets.

Would this be better than 2.1 THX for a study? I somehow lean towards a dedicated subwoofer but curious to know what others' inputs.
These passive r-41m hooked up to your own desktop amplifier are far superior to the Klipsch 2.1 thx powered computer speaker set. I've owned both and compared them side to side. They aren't even close. These are $100 bookshelf speakers and a good value at that price. the 2.1 ThX set is a $30 set of plastic speakers with a $40 subwoofer and neither of them perform great. If you think you need a subwoofer than just buy any old $50 used subwoofer on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace and it will be better than the tiny one in the 2.1 thx set

The 2.1 thx is not terrible. It's very good compared to other small plastic computer speakers but no way it compares in sound quality to dedicated bookshelf speakers like this one.

Lots of things were cheaper 5 months ago. This is still a very good price and there is no way to guarantee these will ever be 70 again so don't let that possibility stop you from buying now if you want these.

Yes you can. These are highly efficient speakers, which means they will play louder for same power. Get 4 banana plugs and cut the existing speaker connectors

IMO these were a bit too bright. But these are definitely good for a beginner 4.1 setup (Front n rears) for anyone who isn't too particular/audiophile and dont wish to spend a fortune on their first setup. You should definitely add a sub. There's a klipsch sub which also goes on sale at costco for about $169 or less, if you wanna stick with costco. The home theater world is an endless money pit, there's always something better out there, depends on what you and your wallet likes Smilie

These measure very poorly.

https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.11566/

For surrounds in a home theater setup they're probably fine but these are the bottom of the Klipsch barrel.

Spend a few more bucks on the JBL A130 (with a sub) for 2.1 listening or as fronts in a surround system.

Or grab the Dayton MK402X [audiosciencereview.com] if you're looking for quality budget small standmount/bookshelf speakers.

That's how I used them in a 7.1 setup. They're big enough to have volume and small enough they tucked under the arms of my couch.

I love the 2.1 promedia THX setup but will say my newer set is not as good as my set from 15 years ago.

It's kind of an odd comparison since the promedia are a tiny footprint and sit on a desk. These would take up about 4-5x the space per speaker.. You would also need a receiver/amp somewhere.

You know, we all read about how efficient Klipsch claims all their speakers to be, then I see all these reviews where the person is comparing them to other brands and mentions they really weren't any louder at the same volume setting. I think Klipsch uses some "in room" sensitive rating whereas most companies use the more standard 1 watt at 1 meter rating.

These are not from the good line of Klipsch speakers. Check out cheapaudioman on youtube for some real world reviews and testing. The Sony SSCS5 are a better buy when they are on sale for under $100.

How's this compare to the Harmon Kardon onyx studio 4? Guess that one blows this one out of the water for music?
