Can't argue with the price, and this would be great if that's all your budget can afford or if it's for a temporary situation. Otherwise, if you have the money, grab a $20-30 mercer chef's knife and a $15-20 paring knife, and you're good for 99% of what most people need.

6 months down the road get a $20-30 whetstone and keep them sharp.
For a $1 more another set from Best Buy seems like it is highly rated as well:

I didn't see the large, red, serrated knife on the Macy's website that comes included with this one if that is what you prefer.

Not sure how long this deal lasts.
Honestly I just get whatever has decent reviews on Amazon and has different grit for each side. Last 2 I bought were 1000 on one side and between 3000 and 6000 9n the other side.

I'm not exactly meticulous/ocd with my sharpening. I soak the whetstone and spend 5 minutes or so sharpening. I do it whenever cutting tomatoes gets annoying.

Thank you!

I own that set and recommend it. They stay sharp for quite a while and sharpen to a razor edge with a little bit of work. I don't use the serrated blade much just the standard ones but I use them daily. Just an FYI, the only issue as of yet is the color will come off of the handles if you use anything rougher than a dish rag to wash them. Do not even use the plastic scrubby pads on the handles.

I use a serrated steak knife (or similar) to slice tomatoes.

That red knife looks like a bread knife. Always good to have one of those

Thanks, the handle quality is a deal breaker for me.

90% of the time when someone cuts themselves in the kitchen in my house, they were using a serrated knife. My personal opinion is that a sharp chef's knife is both safest and generally easiest to use for just about everything.

Edit: as someone said above, bread knives are serrated. I'm honestly a bit scared of them. I'm a simpleton who buys sliced bread, so I don't use mine.

I would guess the stainless with black handles won't have this problem. You should check the reviews. They really are amazing knives for the price. And I admit that I am a knife guy. Sure you can get better but it will cost you six times the price for just a single knife. .
