I had 1 fail on me and it was kind of a hassle, they made me go through Amazon, then only after Amazon said they couldn't do anything. They had me go through their website again and submit for an RMA, then they created a shipping label. Just sent it in yesterday and waiting to get a refund or replacement to see how this transaction finalizes.
Was the RMA request on their site via email or is there a web page? If the latter, then it would be useful to mention that in every SK Hynix thread so people can bypass the futile Amazon contact. They used to have a web page that wasn't well known to submit an RMA but they removed that a few months ago. Wondering if they brought it back.

If you have a URL or email that you used to contact them directly, please post so others can keep it in case they need it in future.

PS: They should know very well by now that Amazon doesn't handle RMA warranty issues for vendors other than their own return window applicable to any product. The fact that they still insist people go via Amazon does not sound like good faith dealing to me.

Bitcoin mining has practically no impact on SSD manufacturing

I bought one of these (for IIRC $83) during a sale this past spring. Solid performer in my older (non-NVMe) system. If I needed another I wouldn't hesitate to jump on this.

This comes up all the time. These days you don't need software that comes with SSDs. Most SSDs have stopped sending software with the package and some have downloads from their website but there is nothing unique or great about the lite versions they make available. There is plenty of free software downloads available that do a good job.

With Windows, use Macrium Reflect or AOMEI backup free versions
With Linux, use clonezilla
With Macs, use Carbon Copy or Super Duper.

The biggest issue is if you can have both the new drive and the old drive attached at the same time internally or via an external enclosure to clone. Depends on your machine. If not, you will have to do a back up elsewhere, replace the drive and restore.

Quite literally the best NVMe drive for your laptop. Not only is it a solid performer, but it's one of the most power efficient drives out there which will have a noticable effect on your overall battery life.

I've been out of the PC building game for awhile but my old hand built 2nd gen i7 is getting long of tooth. Does Hynix compare well with Samsung? I've always been a Samsung and WD loyalist but it seems that winds are blowing differently lately.
I didn't bother researching but tried to go NVME on my i7-2600k last year and the drive worked fine but the bios wouldn't recognize it in as a bootable option. Err wait maybe that was on an e3-1246 v3... I can't remember and I also didn't go far out of my way to try bios updates so hopefully you'll have better luck.

Bios.

It has nothing to do with the CPU itself, but motherboards of the older vintage cpus typically never had the nvme drivers to allow booting from them, but these can be used as secondary drives with the OS providing the drivers automatically once booted.

I had similar issues with an NVME drive on a 2nd gen I series system. If the motherboard your using doesn't have m.2 slots your likely to run into the same issue.

The 2.5 SATA drives should work fine.
