It gets bright enough where you can't look directly at it. Should be fine to light most rooms. But it really will depend on your camera settings. Slow motion video requires much more light than regular video. But in 95% of cases, this light along with a light box/diffuser is all most people will need. Nobody filming a studio level movie is buying this light. For all the home creators, this light is excellent for the price. The only downside being the fan noise so don't mic up too close to it. At $99, this is a steal for the performance you get.
omg, are they really charging more than the cost of the individual components?!?!? I'm gonna ask my grandma if she can build me a few for christmas

Dude, that was EXACTLY what I was thinking...except I thought they were like $2 diodes LOL. Ive bought tons of diodes that look exactly like it on AliExpress for $1.2 - $3. If it doesn't say it's cree or a good brand name, then it's Chinese trash.

Edit...it's definitely a cheap $3 diode. If the site doesn't say anything about the brand or quality of the diode except CRI, which is lmpossible to check, then it's junk.

Good luck All!
The cheap ones are not high CRI and don't produce a nice looking color cast at all, I have some myself and the light quality is terrible and completely useless for video/photo work.

Comparatively high CRI COB LED costs $40+ in small quantities. Then there's the power supply, driver, user interface, heatsink, case, etc..

It's also entirely possible to check CRI, plenty of reviews of lights like this will do a CRI test.

why get this over LED panels for example?
you can add modifiers like umbrellas or softboxes to make the light more dynamic and/or softer. if you just need to light a room by pointing it at a ceiling or wall and bouncing it onto whoever you're shooting then an LED panel might be better. but if you get 2 of these you'll get WAY more light than even a 4 pack of those LED panels you see on amazon for the same price trust me i have 2 myself. the only thing is you'll need a light stand. everything else comes in the box. just point it at a white wall and you'll have nice light.

sounds like you can start building these yourself and then sell them for like a 1000% profit! am I right! you'll make tons of money. what are you doing on slickdeals? just build everything from components yourself!

IDK how powerful you need exactly, but B&H also has the 100W version on sale. There's also 150W and 200W versions, but they're not on sale.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...white.html

Cost per watt of the 150W version is the same as the 60W light @ $1.66 per.

As the other poster noted, the main advantage is in being able to mount light modifiers like softboxes, beauty dishes, grids, snoots, etc. These use a Bowens mount, which is the most common type. And if you happen to have a modifier with a different mount, typically you just need to replace the speedring with a Bowens-type (like $10).

Not as if there's no value in putting all these into one package, but the heatsink arrangement really look like they designed the product in the minimal effort way recycling an abundant supply of CPU heatsinks. $30 tops is a fair price if they don't use professional COB LED chips.

eh no, its very easy to overkill bright any room with led these days, just get ambient/spot combo right [youtube.com], single point room lighting is really the worst thing around.

I own this light. It's plenty bright for most interviews and pretty quiet as well. Paired with a 36 inch light diffuser it's plenty good for most interviews. The light color is very accurate. The handle on mine broke during shipping, so I got a partial refund from the seller when I bought it, so assume that the handle is a bit flimsy. They usually run for $140, which is already a great price. Id buy another at this price. It's often benchmarked against the $600 Aputure lights, and holds it's own very well.

This is a great light, but Godox recently came out with the New SL100D which is 100 watts, higher CRI, compatible with remote for $179. If you need fanless, look at their UL line, and get ready to pay considerably more.
