your pricing on the alder lake is the 1k unit price. so far, they're available for preorder for $650, $450, and $320 for i9, i7, and i5 respectively.

also, i would wait for third party benchmarks and not take either leaked benchmarks or intel's own benchmarks for obvious reasons (unfinished products and/or biased). also, the benchmarks may have been based on windows 11 which wasn't properly optimized for ryzen until recently.

i do agree that you should wait before purchasing a cpu. alder lake's release should stir up competition and hopefully drive down prices of current chips.

but no, alder lake won't be cheaper. if it does perform significantly better, the market will naturally drive down the prices of zen chips (and intel's own current 11th gen offerings).
12th gen is not cheaper if you factor in expensive z690 mother boards and high DDR5 prices. Is it faster? we will have to wait for third party reviews on Nov 4th to know.
yeah good luck getting one of those

This would have saved me 40 bucks if I was patient. I haven't really ever felt it was ineffective at doing anything I have wanted it to do and at this price would recommend it to anyone.
stays cool as a cucumber also. Never has broke 60c even while bench marking with all core 4.85ghz water cooled of course.
And pbo regularly puts my good cores at 5+ghz
Aside:
Of course I'm probably going to the dark side with Intel 12th gen when I can find one. I feel strangled by the lack of pcie lanes especially with multiple high speed pcie4 ssds... So there's that. All 24 threads rarely get pegged, and I think the big/little setup is a great idea and will turn out to be better for my use pattern.

AMD's Ryzen CPUs based on the new Zen 3 stacked chiplet design with V-Cache are expected to enter mass production next month, reports Greymon55. The leaker also states that AMD Ryzen processors with B2 stepping will be shipped and available in the retail segment by end of 2021.

yeah good luck getting one of those

This has been previously sold by Best Buy and Amazon for $499.. likely to go down more in the first week of November if Intel's new CPUs review well. If you can't wait sure. go for it

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_big.LITTLE arm has been doing it forever, high power cores and low power cores like in phones. So you can get higher single threaded performance from the "big" cores because let's face it, a ton of different things cannot be properly programmed to be spread across 24 threads or programmers are under too much pressure to release products and don't have time to make them highly parallelized? I'm not sure what the issue is. But it's commonly known most applications/games don't fully take advantage of more than 4 cores. And then it throws in the additional cores as "Littles" in case you need high amounts of parallel processing and to conserve power when the big cores don't need to be fully utilized.
So the latest thing to combat this is amd pbo. That is letting an individual core or a few cores boost up to a higher speed than the rest of the cores. But I feel like a full redesign to big.little will be a good move for the industry.

I bought 2 days earlier. Just ask for a price adjustment. No go. So I just. Canceled and reordered. I couldn't reorder first then cancel because I guess its one per household.
